sflanagan21, you started this thread, glad you did. I am probably a bit off base, not sure where to put the following, I choose here.

There comes a time when all of us want one thing. Most of us on Dawgs.com are not asking for a miracle, asking for solid coaching that stands tall with the talent we recruit most years to wear the Red and Black. sf21 you have said something similar to that. Me thinks.

At one time not that long ago, we were in the minority on this board when asking for “something better” from our coaching staff. There are still “battles” between the pro Richt and the “educated” that understand the “total picture” that has been presented to us for too long, fails to equalize. Once upon a time, it was called “posi-traction”. Meaning . . . . many here understand. More than one wheel gathering grip. That in my opinion has been the overall problem with Georgia football. Only one wheel with "grip". Whether running the quarter mile or coaching D1 football, not good. Mark Richt was only "one part of the grip".

Tennessee beat us. Their defensive coordinator, John Jancek, once upon a time a Georgia coach.

Willie Martinez, Tennessee defensive backfield coach, you/we know that story.

BVG, Brian Van Gorder. Defensive coordinator for Notre Dame. How does that look in 2015? Might end up as the Gamecocks head coach. Would be a winner, winner, chicken dinner for the Gamecocks. BVG understands that the SEC is a defensive conference.

There is a pattern that has developed in Athens that many refuse to look at.

Why is it that coaches leave Mark Richt, whether fired or on their own volition?

Answer. They (those above Richt) understand those in charge of UGA Football have a head coach that is continuing to put butts in the seats, vault continues to add coin. Why is that happening? 8/9/10 wins some seasons keeps the "uninformed in place". Fact.

wlayton said it well on this board, can't get what he said out of my mind. Paraphrasing . . . . “Might be that our head coach is a good guy, but maybe less than a head coach that many of us understand would not change much of what we have seen over a long period.”

If Mark Richt had taken a job in another conference, chances are that he would done basically what we have seen in Athens.

Say this, been around for several years. Until we have change at the top, further up than Mark Richt, expecting change is a wishful dream. Richt is a pawn on the UGA “chess board”. Sooner or later those that don't understand (fans/supporters) will come to realize that it is a “Business”. That is what the NFL realized many years ago, in the recent past, College Football has entered into that “arena”. Mark Richt understands that. He has good hearted qualities, but he is not a dummy when it comes to the “bottom line”.

When is the last time that anyone on this board could walk up to the "pay window" and collect millions"? Collect for what . . . . what you and I have watched for x amount of years? Guess we expect too much from the "wages that those in charge pay those "in charge".

Been around a while, understand more than some, less than some. IMG understands, like those running the show in the Classic City, they understand . . . . what about you?

Just asking.

Then I read this . . . .

Mark Richt on Brian Schottenheimer: 'I’ve got full faith and confidence that he’s doing an outstanding job'

By Marc Weiszer

Georgia’s first-year starting quarterback and its first-year offensive coordinator have faced their share of criticism during the team’s sometimes bumpy season.

Even after a two-game losing skid and not scoring a touchdown in a 9-6 win in the last game against Missouri, the Bulldogs are still in position to win the SEC East by defeating Florida, Kentucky and Auburn to close its league slate.

Georgia coach Mark Richt still faced several questions at his Florida news conference Tuesday about Virginia graduate transfer quarterback Greyson Lambert and offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.

“I think
Coach Schottenheimer is a great coach,” Richt said. “I think he knows what he’s doing. I think he knows how to coach QBs extremely well. I’ve got a lot of faith in that. We’ve had some ups and downs but the season’s not over yet. I’m in that room most of the time and I listen to what’s being taught, what’s being coached and how it’s being coached. I’ve got full faith in confidence that he’s doing an outstanding job. We’ve just got to continue to get better as we go and I think we will.”

Georgia is sixth in the SEC in scoring offense (33.1 points per game) and fifth in total offense (429.4) after finishing last season first in the league in scoring offense (41.3) and fourth in total offense (457.8) under Mike Bobo, now head coach at Colorado State.

Richt said of the quarterbacks that “we’ve definitely had some up and down performances at that position …Part of that is just growing into that position in our league.”

Lambert, who beat out Brice Ramsey in the preseason, is ninth in the SEC in passing yards per game (182.3) and fifth in passing efficiency (149.3).

Asked if recruiting or development were issues in the current quarterback situation, Richt said: “I’ll just say this. We are this deep into the season and we’re playing Florida and we’re in a very meaningful game. We know if we win the next three games we’re in. …To me, there’s still a lot to be written this season. It’s just a little bit past halfway. I’m not ready to say what kind of year it was for quarterbacks yet or not.”

After the positive statements, check the "I think".

Of course Richt still has faith in Schottenheimer... birds of a feather...
both career backups as players at the collegiate level.... Richt.. unemotional and boring.. Schottenheimer... boring play caller.

Look back at Schottenheimer's career and ask yourself what body of work gives you a lot of confidence in his ability. Seems to me he coached a fair share of boring bad offenses and a lot of QB's that never developed....

Coach speak... support him.. still believe he's got it.... blah blah.

When Richt speaks, this is all I hear:

God Bless and Go Dawgs

We are on a perpetual coaching carousel.
Assistants come and go.
Richt can take a great coach and either reduce him to mediocrity or run him away.
Looks like Richt has found his soul mate in Schott.

averagedawg, appears that Butch Jones is going to be ready on Saturdays. Guess some SEC coach had to let Jones find his way in, and of course it was us.

Now we face off with a first time SEC head coach in Jim McElwain. If we believe the "chatter" about the outcome of the game, guess we have let another head coach in that will make Saturdays difficult for a long time to come.

Noticed we had to bus our guys to the Falcon practice site, again. No big deal right . . . . we have a 30 million dollar facility coming at some point.

Tired of the BS. Get some folks in Athens that understand what football means to so many in Georgia and elsewhere.

Might need to change the name Athens to Washington. Lack of leadership in both places, from where I sit.

Buc, in my life in general I don't incline to involve myself in the politics or the BS as I like to call it. I'm a "blue collar" get the job done right type of man. I leave all the BS to the people that have the time for that. In other words I don't really care what goes on behind close doors that I can't control. What I can control is how much money me and my family spend on UGA gear, tickets, and concessions. And as of 3 weeks ago that has been $0 and will continue to be $0 until Richt is fired or he proves me wrong and we win a NC.

My point is this, I can't do anything about our dead beat HC besides complain and that hasn't gotten me anywhere so I've decided to hit them where it hurts $$$ along with about 10 other families that I know. Yea that's probably chump change to the university but it's the principle that matters to us. All of us are dire hard Dawg fans for 30 plus years each and one of the guys played at UGA from 1990-1993.

I will tune in every Sat and scream and shout until the game is over for my Dawgs but I will NOT spend another penny on anything UGA related so I'm saving roughly $5k a year thanks to our AD and HC!

GO DAWGS
