One of the reasons that the Chavis to TAM has my interest is this . . . .
Did not take long for TAM to understand one of their primary issues, defense. Regardless of what has happened to SEC teams this bowl season . . . . if you can't play defense, these high powered offenses are going to make like miserable for the fans.
Guessing that many remember our head coach trying to hire a defensive coordinator prior to settling on grantham. Don't know the exact number of folks that were either offered or spoken to about the job, do know that grantham was not in the top two or three.
One thing for sure, college football is now without a doubt "Big Business". There are those that will spend if they can get a return on their investment. TAM seems to think that Chavis is worth the risk. Chavis has a history of not only signing top recruits, he coaches and sends many of them to the NFL. Not bad for openers, comes down to wanting to win or hoping to win.
Rest assured that many of the players that have gone on to the NFL and been successful, remember who it was they were coached by. It is like having recruiters on the staff, just don't have to be a part of the college staff. Chavis will make TAM's defense better from the get go. TAM is serious about winning, makes no difference that the sum being laid out is very high, TAM believes they got their man. I tend to go along with the hiring, Chavis record in the SEC speaks for itself.
Takes me back to our hiring of football coaches. Fact is without Coach Will Friend, no way that Pruitt is our defensive coordinator. The way the hiring happened proves that out. Next question is along these lines . . . . what if LSU likes what they see happening under Pruitt, think for a minute they would not offer? For certain our head coach offered Chavis. Turn about is fair play, right . . . .
Seems as if there are one or two here that think that Pruitt will not pan out. Could be, but I tend to wonder what the findings are that support those thoughts. Has been said that Pruitt wears a National Championship ring because he had talent on the roster prior to taking the job. Talent still has to be coached. Apparently Pruitt did not drop the ball with another coaches players. Many times coaching existing "talent" is a lot tougher than breaking in new "talent". Attitudes tend to develop with time in service.
Talk about hiring a offensive coordinator. Bet this . . . . All any of us have to do is look at the talent on the offensive side of the ball, the talent that has been signed and waiting for a turn, the talent that says they are going to sign on with Georgia in 2015 and now much conversation about a quarterback in 2016. Anyone believing that there will be any drastic change in the "Georgia Way" as referred to by our head coach pertaining to offensive change, don't push me on that one.
Know that this is long, you can stop anytime.
Watched the game in the Orange Bowl last night. Anyone notice that GT's offensive line was a major factor in the win? Watched TCU beat the heck out of Ole Miss, TCU offensive line in my mind was the difference. What about Georgia's beat down of Louisville, offensive line have anything to do with that?
Yes I am back to what is important if we want to win football games. At this point our saving grace in 2015 is the fact that we have a returning offensive line. One thing that is never mentioned is those that back up the starters. Will Friend not only built a talented first team, he did the necessary thing to continue what he started, brought in, trained and used the "depth" he had barked for. Do not be fooled, there are those coming in 2015 that will also contribute to the "building" of a line that resembles the Alabama way.
Stop with this. Coach Will Friend kicked the spit out of grantham in the Belk Bowl. Call it anything you will, Friend's offensive line is the reason for our victory. Just another coach that I do not believe was appreciated enough in Athens. Head coach needs to wake up and realize that . . . . have said this many times . . . . play starts with the snap of the ball.
