From Athens - Friday Thoughts - Off Season Week 1

dawgs_fans_dad, don't have to, you said it. Saved their best "played" game for us.

Even winning the Georgia game did not save Muschamp's job.

Shows just how serious the gators are about the game played in JAX. They will be on a more even keel in 2015. Will not look like the same football team.

McElwain will find a quarterback to run the gators. Might not be a quarterback that has the arm strength that Richt/Bobo look for, McElwain can run the "spread offense" without super arms.

Allow me this and I don't mean any disrespect, just trying to back up the point above.

Hutson Mason did not/does not have a super strong arm, adequate is closer I think. Hutson led our football team to a 9-3 record at this point using everyone on the team. It should be team play.

The record could certainly be 10 wins at this point had not (again and often) our coaches calling bone headed plays inside the five yard line and other mistakes that were made by the coaching staff and that falls squarely at the feet of Mark Richt.

Anyone not accepting the above comments do not watch football the same way I do.

Add this. Jim McElwain is and has been a proponent of a strong offensive line. Watch what happens under his . . . . going to use the word again . . . . LEADERSHIP.

Do I look for big changes offensively in 2015 from our offensive coaches? No. Richt/Bobo understand one way of coaching offense. Both have been teaching "their way" since they have been involved in football. Where has that gotten us? 9/10 wins a year (some years) and a playbook that every opposing coach understands how to line up against.

Truthfully, the 9/10 win seasons actually show the amount of talent that has been in Athens for over 14 years. Keep thinking that someone in the "chain of command" will look past the lack of leadership and find a better "formula" for you and I. Those of us that do understand "arena" talk.

Edit: This comment really bothers me. Mentioned it in another thread.

Our head coach says that we are "on the right track". On track 14 years later? That board members is nothing more than "snake oil", packaged in a brown paper bag loaded with BS.

Buc...

We can hope against all else that Richt lets the real
coaches coach but as long as he is allowed on the sidelines
with headphones on, we're in trouble.

UF saved their very best for us?.. or was it actually that we saved our very worst for them? It's not hard to look like world beaters when your opponent is thinking about games weeks down the road instead of the one they are playing today.

God Bless and Go Dawgs

Wartdawg, you make a point that I feel many don't think about. The post you made above in my opinion comes from someone with a real understanding of American Football. Makes me think, as a lot of your posts and threads do.

Agree with you especially pointing out the head phones. This will bother some but . . . . watching our head coach fiddle with the mouth piece and saying nothing, or . . . . looks like a prop, not unlike props used on movie sets to appear that he is in control.

I said at the beginning of 2014 that I would not allow myself to be "used" by those that are very good at that.

Did not take long before I watched Hutson Mason being blamed for the "fiasco" that happened in Columbia. Hutson Mason was not calling the plays at that point and what we got out of that was this . . . . a "back handed apology" from our head coach. Same kind of apology that he mustered up after the gator game. Pruitt came out quick and said he had messed up. In the typical Mark Richt way of reacting, had to let some time pass before owning up to what had just happened, day or so later.

The only thing that will change offensively in Athens, Season 2015, the calendar will move from 2014 to 2015. Other than that offensively, some great players and many good players will go through the same motions that have been put in place the last 14 years.

Again our losses, to this point (3), still have a bowl game to play . . . . anyone remember JAX and our last bowl game? Losses to South Carolina, Florida and Tech. All three point to a head coach that is who he is.

I call him the 4 million dollar man, same head coach that would have gotten another $100,000 had he made a major bowl in 2014. $100,000 would inspire me to do things that would insure they were done right. Guess when you have been making millions over 14 years, $100,000 does not really matter. Sad.

How is that raise coming along for Bryan McClendon? We understand he got new business cards, hard to spend business cards, don't seem to have a lot of value like the American Currency seems to have.

I encourage all that read this post read the link posted below. Might pay special attention to what our head coach has to say about things such as "special teams". Check out the names that Bryan McClendon led to the Classic City. Not a good read for the "bleeding hearts".

Pulled this from the article.

McClendon was credited for landing nine of the team’s 21 recruits during the 2014 cycle. Of those nine, three were 5-stars and four were 4-stars.

Another thought. Looking at where we (UGA) are currently ranked after playing our 2014 schedule, if there were a final 8 instead of a final 4 we might make the 8th choice.

What does that really say about Georgia Football. Fear not, our head coach said that we are on the right track in year 15.

Sour grapes on my part, no not really. Just looking and reading what is out there for all to see. Back to what ogredawg has said, "tired".
