Now the O line needs motivation. seems no one wants to step up and play guard. CWF is doing he right thing in moving players around NOW. Will be too late for any of that when Clemsun comes calling....

Dawg With Style, over the many years of college football, the SEC has been noted for defensive play. Not telling you anything, know you understand.

If we look at the "very successful coaches" in the SEC over a long period, most have come from the defensive side, and coach their teams that way. Most recent of course being Nick Saban.

Pruitt has done more to restore "hope" in UGA Football than many have in the past 13 years. He won't fail, and if we ever figure out how to recruit the offensive line, UGA could be dangerous. Think that falls in the area of "offensive head coaches".

That right Buc, it seems that the teams with the better defense win more championships. Look at Spurrior for instance, he is a great offensive mind, but could get very little done, and if it were not for his great defenses, USC would still be patsy. If I am not mistaken, each team that has won a NC has done it with top 10 defense.

An offence is great to have, but if you can't stop the other guy, and if the other team has a little better defense than yours, most likely you lose.

Hey Duck. Good to hear from you. Spot on about the defense. You can score 40 but

if the other team scores 41 Sorry you lose

Go Dawgs!

Duck, you make a good point about Spurrier.

Here is one of the reasons that South Carolina moved up under SS. Name is Ellis Johnson.

Ellis Johnson is the reason that #7 Clowney might be the first pick in the NFL this year. Clowney went to South Carolina because of Ellis Johnson.

Ellis Johnson moved to Auburn. Gus Malzahn is no fool, he knows that Ellis was needed to make his system work. Gus did not need an NFL "ego" to make his system work. Went straight to Ellis Johnson and it will continue to pay dividends for Gus.

We hear a lot about Jeremy Pruitt. If I had to bet, if we look at the video below, this is what Pruitt looks like right now in Athens. He is younger than Ellis, but both believe in running to the football. Also notice in the video that Gus Malzahn is on the field coaching, it is a short shot of him. He however does not have his arms crossed. Had to say that.

Defense is the rule in the SEC. Offenses have changed, but . . . .

There has been quite a bit of conversation over a period of time about our offensive line. Not trying to be "Debbie Downer" with the following, it appears that much of what we have discussed is now being talked about openly.

Couple of different times listening and reading what Will Friend has had to say, he does not seem to be in the best of moods. Now Mike Bobo comes out and mentions what some of us on this board have been questioning for a while.

The paragraph below was pulled from Marc Weizer's column. Comments from Mike Bobo. Mike is not using the "window dressing" method when discussing freshmen coming in and playing different offensive positions. The main concern from where I sit is the offensive line. Realize it is Spring, but I have been around long enough to get a good feel for what "is and isn't".

On board with the attitude change concerning the defense, from fans and players. However, you also don't win the big games in the SEC without a superior offensive line. That as we all know was proven last season by Auburn. Alabama has understood from the day Nick Saban arrived on campus. A first year head coach (Gus Malzahn) and a seasoned head coach (Nick Saban) are taking care of recruiting the "entire" program. We somehow can't seem to get this overall needs thingy down. Running backs are less likely to get hurt if they have holes made for them, rather than having to run over folks, over and over during a game. Just saying, again . . . .

Reinforcements are coming this summer and Bobo said incoming freshmen at tailback, tight end, on the offensive line and even at receiver will be given every opportunity to play.
“There’s no question that we’re going to have to have freshmen play for us this year and play meaningful minutes,” Bobo said. “Some of them, possibly start. We’ve got to get more competition on the field. Obviously getting Jay back at tight end will help but obviously at the tight end position, the receiver position at the running back position and the o-line, there’s not enough competition at those spots.”
