Interesting Article on Georgia Athletics

We have tossed this subject around a couple of times on this board. Comes to mind that there are others that do not understand some of the actions (or lack of) being taken by our AD and those above him.

I think I see some changes just around the corner, however that is what the article below implies, things never seem to reach the finish line.

Hard to disagree with most of what is said in the article, although there are a couple of points that touch nerves. Seems to me old white guys was pushing the topic a bit far.

Surely some on this board have opinions on this . . . . several responded to the author of the article. What'cha think?

Buc, This is a hard nut to crack. Those who say build it and they will come and fill the seats or the container does not made the contents great.

Do you think for one second that Duke does not have the coin to replace the Cameron shoebox? Yet Coach "K" has no problem building winners year after year.

For years Louisville played at the State Fairgrounds in a true rodeo facility yet Coach Crumb winners. True hat was a different era. Kids now want more bing and chrome.

Time to spend on Foley and baseball. Basketball needs to step up Stegman is a not a high school facility.

yankeedawg1, good points all.

Guess the thing that really sticks in my mind is the way that Alabama has progressed under Saban. Reason I bring that into this blog, not only is their facility in Tuscaloosa outstanding, they continue to add on and in my way of thinking, making Alabama/Saban/Smart tough to contend with.

AM had his moment recently when discussing what he thought would aid Georgia not only practice wise, recruiting also. As you mention, young men today want more bling and chrome. Guess the coaching along with the facilities in Tuscaloosa bear that out.

yd1, another team that is moving along the Alabama game plan is none other than South Carolina. Been around a long time in this conference and for sure Spurrier can and will get what he wants in Columbia as long as he is there. He is treasured in South Carolina as is Saban in Alabama.

I am one that still misses the tracks, probably will never get over that change. Taking away the tracks and adding seats did move the numbers up in attendance. That was a revenue move. So, we have somewhere around 70 million or so in the till, and while improvements are thought to have been made in our facilities, still question some of the restrooms and other things that appear to need attention. Especially now that Mickey and Minnie are coming on board.

Very good point on Coach "K". A bit like discussing the railroad tracks, some things don't really need to be changed, especially when the existing product works.

Not really kicking up a lot of dust, I am however someone that wants to see us make that next step, and if it is money or whatever reason, just want to move forward.

As you say my friend . . . . This is and has been a hard nut to crack. Much like this board and many others . . . . football posting does not start until the Fall of the year. Football is primarily the reason that "most" sports blogs exist, and . . . . Mickey and Minnie continue to love us for that. :)

Buc, Wheels and turning.... you are correct NS & SS can get what they want now... that all changes if the product they are putting on the field turns sour. More in SS case and quicker as he does not have the NC's that NS has to back him up.

Sometime last year NS spoke about how the wheel turns and Bama will at some point slip it happens in all sports.

I like for us to help that happen sooner than he wishes. I trust Mac will see we have what we need.

Here is hoping that no one takes this as being against McGarity. I think he is the right man and have said so more than once.

Truthfully, as you and I know from our "extended lives" the wheels of progress sometimes move at a pace not welcomed by all.

I am one who believes that Mac had more to do with the changes in Mark Richt's coaching and "other" issues that surrounded our head coach for several years than anyone else.

For too long I felt that Richt was trying to be too much to everyone. Mac serving under Jeremy Foley for many years are probably indirectly one of the reasons Richt removed himself from the "hot seat".

While I understand that the 70 or so million in the vault should be wisely used, also believe that we have to look at our major producer of revenue, and not forget that times have changed as have those that now play the game of football.

There are a lot of issues that have to be faced, and that is in the near future. Football scheduling is going to light up the blogs and media folks like we have not seen in some time. Getting into that final four to start with, and getting into the final ever how many is settled on soon thereafter.

Many of the games that some of us "older folks" have been a part of for more years than I can remember are going to be either dropped or not on an annual basis. There is no way around that happening.

Here is hoping the Red and Black not only frequent the "final four" but keep the spirit of college football and fall afternooons for years to come. It is not gloom and doom, it is someone my age trying to shuffle the cards in such a way as to keep that "edge" that has been a huge part of my life. I love Georgia, I love college football. :)
