You Go Antonio, Now I Know You!

In another thread on this site there was conversation about one of our players and him stepping outside the law.

Too often in reporting circles everyone in the public's eye don't get the same or entire story.

For example the University of Florida football player does not get the same press as those of us outside his particular area. Must say Orlando and JAX carried the entire story. Many around Gainesville did not.

Antonio Morrison, expected to be the starting Middle Linebacker for the gators this season. Below are a couple of paragraphs I picked up from ESPN that laid out a different "overall" presentation than did those in Florida that cover the gators.

I hate it when we (UGA) step outside the lines and with our past reputation, get blasted. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Supposedly Muschamp will take care of this internally. Will be the end of the issue as far as the public being informed. Folks, this is the way that Urban Meyer handled things . . . . internally. Also the reason that he no longer coaches in Gainesville . . . . lost control.

From ESPN.
According to the GPD report, a group of men skipped to the front of the line and one man asked Al Ajlani about admission prices. When told he would have to pay full price, the report stated the man became irate and began screaming at Al Ajlani.

"Don't you know who I am?" the report states the man yelled. "I am a UF football player! I am Antonio!"

According to the report, Al Ajlani looked back at the man and the man began punching Al Ajlani in the head. Al Ajlani told police he pushed a security barricade at the attacker in self-defense, and then the attacker and his friends fled across the street, got into a white vehicle, and fled the scene.

The report also states that Al Ajlani said the incident was being recorded on a cellphone belonging to one of the attacker's friends. Al Ajlani had visible swelling in his head, the report states, but refused EMS services.

Edit: Guess we can draw our own conclusions about the player in the article below. Loved hanging with Antonio. Sorry folks, but "Birds of a feather stick together". To hell with this talk about these players being so "young". Grow the hell up. Some interesting posts to the article.

It's a thug mentality. "Don't you know who I am?!" says it all. I sometimes wonder what one of these punks would do if he was all alone (you know - without his 'posse' to back him up), in a red neck bar, surrounded by a bunch of rough necks. I sometimes wonder what one of these "fine young men" would say or do if confronted in a dark alley, all alone (without that 'posse') by a little 125 pound runt - sporting a .357 magnum aimed right at his chest. In either situation, would they be this bold? Would they yell, "Don't you know who I am?!"? Would they try to punch their way out of the situation?

Something tells me they would suddenly learn some manners.

I do buy into the theory that it's where you come from that makes you who you are. Unfortunately, most of these "fine young men" don't come from a very nice place. Football seems to have become a sport for felons, somewhere back in the late 1980's in some pretty urbanized areas.

thriller, know that you stay busy . . . . comes from doing a great job.

If you have the time, read the posts to the article, not that many, but some very interesting comments from . . . . Lord forgive me, gators with brains. I say that with some respect. Not sold on the overall. :)

Yes, the "Don't you know who I am?" speaks volumes. And I agree that football has became somewhat of a thug sport, but as long as the NFL will throw millions of $$$ at kids from bad situations this will continue. Not to mention the sense of entitlement most of the fine young men.

TN Dawg, realize that I have mentioned several times my feelings on the deal between the SEC/ESPN. With all of the added publicity this is going to create, along with as you mention above, the NFL, don't see a real good end to this.

Other side of the ledger . . . . if the people putting these deals together would play a stronger role in reforming, rather than aiding and abetting, many of these youngsters coming up, regardless of their area could have a much greater life. Think that is what most of us want for our family, children and friends. The opportunity.

Concerning Antonio Morrison . . . . Would have loved it if the door man was a "true bad ass" and laid him out. He did however have his "posse" with him, we know how that would have turned out.

Urban Meyer would have swept this under the rug. As much as I dislike a former UGA football player coaching Florida, here is hoping that this will not be handled "Urban Meyer" like.

Talk about a aiding and abetting dude, UM is the leader now at Ohio State, problems soon to follow, unless you are in his "privileged group". Facts are simply facts.

Like Mark Richt or dislike Mark Richt, when he speaks to the parents of potential recruits, the man speaks the truth.

The 1st day of fall practice, maybe they should run 25 plays straight at Morrison, with a double team and the fullback leading through the hole (with D-line not moving)and let's see just how tough he is then. Forget Muchamp handling it internally, let the players take care of him.....that might get his attention a little more if his peers kick his butt.

Naaa, nowadays, that wouldn't work either with these primadonnas.
