Georgia Foundation Laid

Haven't seen any bad reports concerning the Spring Break and our players getting into trouble. That is a good thing, of course.

Makes me think that many of these young pups know that there is playing time available this season. Tomorrow the stories will begin to filter out of Athens after practice, and before the Spring Game we will know which young pups will be vying for time on the field in the Fall. Spring game will not be played as we all know like the "serious business" that goes on prior to the end of Spring practice. From tomorrow (Tuesday) until the start of Fall practice, coaches will know a lot more, and will probably have their minds set on a majority of the playing time and who has earned that right.

Had some years that we were not handling the recruiting cycle as we did this year. Another sign that Richt and company have advanced. My opinion. Guess this coming years recruiting will be focused on the fewer scholarships that will be rewarded. That can be a plus, not using the shotgun method of trying to lure the players to Athens. Fewer scholarships will mean recruiting hard on fewer players and giving the coaches more time to spend with the hopefuls. 2014 has a chance of putting Georgia back on an even keel with some who have been top guns in the SEC.

As has been mentioned, the coaching staff seems to be in place, Mark Richt has said as much. Many of us were not sure what was going on prior to this season. Think that some of our questions were answered prior to the game in Orlando. Won't go into that again. He knows, we know, now we can face up against each other.

Have to say this . . . . Malzahn is going to see speed like he has never seen before when we face off for the second year in a row down his way. Would love to see the same outcome . . . . more Georgia folks in the seats than the Auburn faithful after the FIRST HALF. That my friends was a "beautiful thing".

Believe that the foundation has been laid, took a while, but truthfully, feel Mark Richt grew up. Like his fire. Think his goal now, maybe set even higher than before is to win that National Championship. Going to be a very interesting 2013 Season. Also, many are worrying about the first two games, as I am. Wonder if the first two opponents are worrying about Georgia?

Imo, the light went on with CMR, believe he now wants to be remembered as a great coach not just a good coach.....he knows it takes a NC to get there.

For some reason I am beginning to think that Chris Wilson's hiring amounts to much more than simply hiring a defensive line coach. Just guessing. Not real good reading tea leaves.

Another thing about recruiting this season (2014). With fewer scholarships to be issued, believe that we might see some of the young high school players not stringing the universities out, as has happened the past few seasons. Maybe or probably will see more like Tray Matthews who commit and stay with their commitment. That alone makes me think highly of Tray. Going to enjoy watching Tray "bring it" this Fall.

Will be much easier for a high school player to "lose his seat" if he wants to play the media game. Will also hurt a certain AJC beat writer that loves to play "hide and seek". Not calling names or name, would love to see his press pass pulled. Lazy turd would be lost without that.

This old fart believes that we will now build our offensive and defensive lines . . . . Nick Saban/Kirby Smart taught us a lesson. Lesson learned is a plus, regardless of where the lesson comes from.

yankeedawg1, really like what I see in the past couple of years coming out of Athens. While we are playing catch up, we are catching up.

Spent last evening at a gathering of folks for Saint Patrick's Day. One of the gentlemen that attended lives in my area and has "serious roots" in Alabama football, goes back to a Hounds Tooth Hat. His Father was a Baptist minister in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and was very close to Paul Bryant. Will use the gentlemans first name, David.

Dave said to me after we got past the corn beef and cabbage, you seem to know a lot about Georgia football. I had been in the middle (or participated in) a conversation about Florida and Georgia and the ongoing fortunes of both universities.

Dave got involved in the conversation and said this . . . . Watching the SECCG in Atlanta was one of the two best games that I have ever watched. He is not a young pup. I asked him about the 4 or 5 yards at the end. Dave said that he had never in all of his years growing up in Tuscaloosa, and being a part of Alabama football, witnessed what happened that day, and feel sorry for the losing team. Went on to say that Notre Dame would not have stood a chance against our 2012 Edition of UGA Football. Not sure, but think we BONDED on Sunday. Too much conversation to type here, but Dave has a automobile dealership and is heavily involved in Alabama football. Oh yeah, much of the "gator" talk subsided. Don't get me wrong, but at the end of this particular conversation, one of my friends, a gator, did mention recent history. You folks would have been proud of me . . . . I put up my index and middle finger facing him, and it was not the peace sign. Did mention we have won the past two JAX meetings. Ain't no damn "gator" can take that away from me.

Enough, still chatter too much. Tomorrow, and throughout the Spring we move forward, building our depth and as wlayton said, finishing Mark Richt's years in Athens with a . . . . you know what.

I love football, we need to find a way to keep Urban "Liar" Meyer from picking and choosing in the State of Georgia. Grantham, finish building that fence.

One more thing, you know how I am. Hope Todd Grantham stays long enough to pass along his way of doing things. Yes, I know we gave up a lot of yards at the line of scrimmage last season, maybe some of that changes this season. If we give up yardage, continue to keep the "bad guys" out of the endzone, scoreboard counts, stats don't.

I still believe we would have given up less yardage throughout the year if we would have trusted and substituted more often with some of the more than ample talent that ended up standing on the sidelines most of the year.
