One guy that I get a kick out of will list every recruit that signs on with another school, and in the next breath will try to make us believe that the sky is falling. Seldom if ever does the person go into detail, just plays the headline game to draw attention.
There are limited scholarships, and when looking at D1 rated players, there is much disagreement on who is the best and why. Many reporters (most) are getting their information second hand, would however have us believe that they have the inside scoop. Also, most of those creating headlines follow what the talking heads have to say as to how high a player should be rated.
While coaches want many of the young men that are liberally discussed in the media, I also know that coaches have players on their recruiting board that the media does not have a bit of information on or about.
If we go to one or two of the sites that list all of us that start threads, easy to see that most are carrying the same information. Whatever happened to journalism, creating, writing articles that took a little more time, a bit of insight?
Again, if the media folks are that well informed, can play the headline game, why can they not tell us who will be signing with whom in February at this point. Promise you that the coaches have a good feel for those they will be coaching for the next few years.
Often the coaches get blamed for letting the “superstar talent” escape our school. I am one that has voiced an opinion on that subject. Sometimes, and speaking for myself, I have had to look a little closer, dig a bit deeper and come up with why I think some student athletes venture out of state.
My reasoning for many of our problems start with the coaches. I truly believe it has taken Mark Richt a few years to realize just how important a solid coaching staff is to any football program. In my opinion, that has been Richt’s shortcoming as far as success is concerned. Yes he has won a lot of football games, but there has always been that question about taking the program a step further. Cannot have a mixed bag of coaches. Coaches are no different than the football team, they also have to “play” together.
Recently I have moved from the position of screaming at certain coaches to getting on board with what the “new regime” is doing, and capable of doing. I won’t call a name or names, but I do believe that we needed a turnover in a couple of areas on the defense that will not only show, but will prove the adjustments needed to be made.
Find myself sometimes thinking back to Atlanta and the Boise State game. If we rate the teams by the number of *****’s that the media assigns them . . . . how the heck did Georgia get it handed to them by 2 and 3 star players. My opinion . . . . Mark Richt had to do some serious soul searching. I believe he did.
Said on this board a couple of times, we will know a lot more about Georgia Football when the 2013 Season comes to a close. Many excellent football players already reside in Athens and here is hoping that the last coaching change on defense continues our rise in the SEC.
Many in the media and coaches alike have Georgia finishing in the top ten in the nation in 2013. Tells me that the media and coaches think UGA is loaded even before the final tally of recruits in February. I believe the base units have been built, not through yet, but the foundation has been laid.
Go Dawgs . . . . Coach'em Up!

Funny how they cited all of this 4 and 5 star talent whose names you wouldn't recognize because they came out of highschool and fizzled out for whatever reason and the programs were mediocre to outright disappointing. Young men are still growing a lot at he ages of 18-20 and some have already peaked in their growth by college. I've seen a lot of players who I think are going to be all world because they have such a good freshman year but don't ever seem to perform better than the first year.
TRUTH.
