Feel sure most of you have read the articles about Rodney Garner. Right now it is just chatter, had to start somewhere though.
Appears to me that the new head coach at Auburn is pulling out all of the stops to get the program back on an even keel. Garner did graduate from Auburn, was wined and dined by Tennessee at one point, no doubt that Garner is a serious recruiter.
Some might disagree with this . . . . anyway, there were some rumblings when Grantham did get the defensive coordinators job. He was not the first choice, he however did end up with the job. Wondered back then how Garner felt about that, did not know if he was satisfied with the title of assistant coach and recruiting director. However, the decision was made and Garner was put in the position of actually learning a new defense himself. Many coaches run the 3/4 differently as you folks know.
Money usually comes into play at some point and we did give Grantham a handsome raise once he was on board and making strides. Other coaches got a boost also. Have to believe that Garner would like a little more or a lot more "jack" in his pocket. Coaching is one thing, recruiting is quite another. Randy Garner is one hell of a recruiter.
At this point, not sure just how good he is coaching the defensive line. I do know that teams have been able to run on our defense, that however is not all of Garner's fault in my way of thinking. Eleven men on each side of the ball.
Beginning to think that some feelings were hurt somewhere down the line, don't know that for a fact, just thinking to myself. Several folks were offered or it was reported they had been offered the defensive coordinators job, never heard Randy Garner's name mentioned.
There was a bit of a tussle over Malcolm Mitchell recently, an ongoing thing for over a year between the offensive coach and defensive coach. Mark Richt settled that difference this week.
It will be what it will be. Had thought that this group of coaches were together and was liking the solidarity being shown, mentioned that a time or two on the board. Just human nature for folks not to be in total agreement with each other. Hope that this blows over and everyone lives happily ever after.
Go Dawgs . . . . coach'em up!
