Yankeedawg1, prior to reading your “Friday Blue Plate Special” was having some of the same thoughts about our coaching staff. Think maybe I got “real” with myself, sometimes that is hard to do.
As has been stated on this board, especially the latter portion of this season, Mark Richt is going nowhere. Thought, what does that do to me and my way of thinking. Comes down pretty much to this . . . . I love the University of Georgia, that is not about to leave this old farts life.
If I want change then I had better be damn sure I have my thoughts together on what I want to see in a coaching staff. I could go through a list of teams that have made coaching changes and some of the changes the teams made were for the same reasons that we read and post here. Amazing how quickly those changes turned out to be mistakes. Could site Arkansas, Auburn, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Florida (yes Florida), Tennessee and others.
Just to clarify the Florida situation . . . . Urban Meyer took all of the glory that was in Gainesville and left Florida with nothing but the bones. Some of us older folks used to refer to that type as a “Carpet Bagger”. Some might have to do a quick history lesson on the internet to get the full meaning.
I know that we have to beat the likes of Alabama, and beat them in the years that they have a solid football team, not the down years. Same can be said for LSU, Florida and South Carolina. Now I am thinking that we can add the likes of Texas A&M to the list of better than average college football team. Ask Alabama, TAM has put the State of Alabama in a tailspin.
Am I glad that we are in the East side of the SEC, not really. If we are looking to win football games that truly don’t have that much effect on recruiting and major bowls, I want to win against teams that come to play and stand shoulder to shoulder with as much or more talent than we have. That is when I will stand tall. The East this season has shown marked improvement, although I can’t agree with where Florida is rated in the polls. One reason for that is very simple, they have won the coveted National Championship recently, makes them a huge draw for the national media, lots of attention. Same thing is about to happen in the State of Ohio that happened in Florida a while back, mark those words.
I will continue to discuss the fortunes of UGA football after each game and every season. Sometimes will lose what little “cool” I have left, but that takes me back to this . . . .
I don’t have the talents of our coaching staff. Richt has been the leader for many years, and as yd1 stated, Richt and Grantham have formed a team. They may never win a National Championship, but I sure as hell can’t ride their ass for the effort I see coming from both of them these days. Sometimes it takes a while to form a winning combination, don’t know if the two are going to be all that, but anyone that has ever ran a business or participated in a successful business knows that everyone or the majority sitting around the table have to either be on the same page or get there fast. I think that Richt and Grantham have positioned our team to be a handful for anyone that is on our schedule.
Nothing will keep me from barking at our coaches, hell that is part of the reason I participate. Shuffleboard isn’t the only game in town.
I seriously doubt that there is one person that posts here that could do a better job than the present coaches are doing. I also know that the answer to that is . . . . Fire and Hire the best. To that I say this and anyone that reads this board knows that I have always said Saban is the best. Still think so, but . . . . He got his butt handed to him against TAM. Spit happens.
Will be interesting to see how the game goes tomorrow, meaning substituting and players tempers. GSU will cut/chop block on every play somewhere along the line, even when the play called is a pass play. Kwame had a belly full of the center from Vandy and lost his temper. Expect to see some of that tomorrow. I sincerely hope that we don’t lose a single player from a chop block. That really bothers me and has for many years. Makes me think of the Denver Broncos back in the day.
Sorry about the length yankeedawg1, must be the ginseng tea. Happy trails to you and “Georgia” on your next rabbit/squirrel chase.
Sometime when folks aren’t busy, stop by your VA and see the warriors that lost limbs, let them know you appreciate the freedom that so many gave so much to be able to watch UGA football on Saturdays.
Go Dawgs!
