Impact Player

I am guessing when we say "impact player" we are looking at someone who has not had a great deal of playing time. We all know what the potential of most of our players that will be returning, so I am going to weigh in on one offensive and one defensive player I will be following closely.

Offense - IC should be ready so shoulder the burden of featured back this year. If not, there are others I feel will be able to platoon and give us a good running attack. AM is head and shoulders above most other SEC qb's and his leadership will be apparent real quick when we hit Columbia, MO. That makes the impact player Jay Rome. We should still have enough speed on the outside with MM moving over to D, and Rome has the size, and speed to rip holes in the middle. Linebackers will have trouble with him. We need to get the ball to our TE like we did with Ben Coates, Leonard Pope, Randy McMichael, and Ben Watson.

Defense - Our db's will be weak for a while, but expect growth out of that unit. They will get that opportunity because the D line and linebackers will put pressure on the QB's and contain most running games. Our depth on D line is going to be frightening. So impact player is Ray Drew. Drew's quickness will be a tough match for offensive linemen as we can play up or down.

Can't wait until season starts!

TN Dawg said it, I believe it. I look at the teams we play in the East and the following paragraph is spot on in my opinion. Depth on the defensive line against say South Carolina, supposedly they are not set on the OL. Tennessee and Florida, same can be said. Same can be said for the others that we will face, they are not any stronger than UGA on the offensive line. Appears that old adage, in the SEC you must play defense. Grantham's defensive front should allow the DB's and LB's time to read and position themselves. We are talking quick time, seconds, and not too many seconds at that. Would not want to be in the quarterback position against this bunch.
