Since things are slow besides Jarvis Jones what one player will have the biggest impact for this years season own defense?

I am going with Cornelius Washington DE I think Grantham knows what he is doing moving this guy to DE he has size, speed, and smarts to be good will make life easy for JJ.:)

This is an article to go along with my pick.

DWS, just the fact that CW lines up with Abry Jones, Jenkins and or Geathers, going to be tough running against this crew.

Unless I miss my bet, think that Jenkins and Geathers will see a lot of action together forming a four man front when we visit South Carolina. Would not be surprised to see some of that formation against Missouri. Lots of depth this year on the defensive line, will not look anything like what South Carolina has seen from UGA recently. Realizing that these young men played against South Carolina last season, but from what yankeedawg1 has said, this group is ready to play.

There are some serious young men that are going to give the #1's a breather this year, believe we are going to see a couple of surprises from Grantham that we have not seen before. Believe that Grantham is going to "Let the Dawg's Out". Something tells me that we are going to see some names that we are not that familiar with, considering we have many open slots left to fill, if we choose to do so. Beginning to get that "spirit" back, hoping it does not backfire on me. really want to know when we are in places like JAX or the "Columbia's" that I can "truly believe" we can win.

One more thing . . . would love to know just how fast CW is. There was much talk last season and the year before about his straight line speed. One thing for sure, when he goes to the NFL combine, all of us will get the true numbers. CW is going to be an outstanding pro, and I believe that he learned a valuable lesson last season when he veered off course.

I am with you DWS on CW.

Hope that your Dad is progressing. :)

Go Dawgs . . . . or . . . "Let the Dawgs Out" . . . know that they have been Coached Up! :)

I'll jump in. Honestly, I don't get too excited by anyone on this years recruiting class, I hate to say it.

Overall, my pick for D impact this year BETTER be Ray Drew. I say let this young man put one hand on the ground if that's what he's most comfortable doing. Play to his strengths. Cut him loose and let him have at a few QBs. But I'm worried. I think he'll either be the STUD or the DUD this year. I'm optimistic and I believe Grantham really IS a good coach, so I'm going with STUD.

I'm concerned about the D this year. Too many "fine young men" have made too many "head-where-the-sun-don't-shine" mistakes this year, and we need Malcolm Mitchell back on the offense. I think we will need to lean on that kid. I think the D won't be ready for a speed game early enough, and Missouri may show us up on that count. On offense, our QB performs his best against the weakest teams, his worst against the best. That also worries me. If IC can manage to overcome a hangnail, he may well prove to be all that and a box of Cracker Jacks.

So I'll go out on my optimistic limb and call out Ray Drew.

"Ray Drew - I'm CALLING YOU OUT!"

thriller having watched some film on Ray Drew (high school film) the one thing that sticks out to me is his quickness. A young man with his size has the tools that many look for. Agree with you, he needs to show his wares this season. Ray was not recruited to sit on the bench. Thinking on this side is that Grantham has higher than high expectations for Jordan Jenkins, allowing Ray to become very familiar with defensive end play in the tough SEC.

I feel that Grantham wants this defense to shine this season, especially against Spurrier and his squad. Will be surprised if we don't see a couple of "new names" seeing a lot of action early on preparing for SS and his antics. Going to lose a lot of players to the NFL, have to believe that these young warriors are going to play with added spirit this season.

With you on calling Ray Drew out. Also agree with AM using his talent base. Two tight ends that could very well change our entire season.

I am going with Mike Gilliard. This young man has proven that he can play in the SEC. He stepped up his game when called on last year.

ogredawg, definitely stepped up against Tennessee, 12 tackles, 1 sack and a forced fumble.

A bit surprising to me that so far "Impact Player" comes from the defensive side in the posts.

I really like Ramik Wilson.

Thinking about the amount of respect the defensive side is getting since WM left, has to be a story there.
