Some Thoughts . . . .

These are some things that I think about, but . . . .

Ogletree and IC having a bit of a skirmish on Saturday, full pads. Takes me back to a supposed happening last season when Jarvis Jones slammed IC against a locker.

There are some serious football players on this football team, and I believe that the serious guys are determined to get everyone’s attention, and that includes IC. Watching some of IC’s antics when he was hit last year and when he played high school football, seems to want to get up after a tackle and bark. That can and will cause problems with the officials. One thing that our offense does not need this coming season is one player negating a good play by ten others on the offensive side. I’m sorry, the barking does nothing for me, just shows how immature IC is and I for one am not convinced that he is ready to be a team player.

The entire football community, media, fans and coaches know that IC has talent. I am beginning to think that his talent is from the shoulders down. There are also folks like Jones and Ogletree that understand team play and it appears that they are “enforcers”. The University of Georgia has needed “enforcers” for many years under the current administration. Prima Donnas be damned. Can’t change your immature attitude, do me and many other supporters a favor . . . . Change uniforms. We have been through this with another player that took his “talents” to Jacksonville.

This is the way that Jarvis Jones thinks that the Grantham method might work for the offensive side of the ball. JJ said that the offense is frustrated. Jarvis goes on to say that we are all on the same team, just need to prepare the offensive side for what they will see when the season begins. We will face some serious defenses this season whether some out here think so or not.

South Carolina thinks that they are the true champs of the East, they will try and prove that in Columbia.

Florida coached by Muschamp, do not accept what happened in JAX last season and they will be a different team this year.

Can’t stand Franklin, actually have always had a soft spot in my heart for Vandy, (great homecoming game for years) that has also changed. They will use the cut blocks that Franklin teaches.

Following BVG closely since Spring practice began . . . Man on a mission. Auburn at their place.

Takes me back to the first game of the season. Missouri. They play the same type game that Michigan State plays, exception being, they have a quarterback and a receiver than can cause a lot of problems. Also the game is on their turf.

Keep reading where UGA should be in the top five in the country. I won’t disagree with that, I will however question whether or not we see improvement from our offensive coaches. This is supposed to be a cupcake schedule, this is the kind of schedule that can end up like the 6-7 season if Mark Richt does not have a handle on HIS FOOTBALL TEAM.

Good on the defensive team, keep slapping that offense around, might make for a very good season. IC, not sure about you, sometimes BMOC come to a point when they have to prove all of the “pats” on the back mean something. To this Dawg of a few years, you need to look inside, improve your game from the shoulders up.

Go Dawgs . . . . Mark Richt, coach’em up. . . new contract . . . results matter. Remember what your mentor said when you were in Tallahassee . . . Does not matter what you did last year, it is called win baby win. Coach Bowden understood and still sacrificed his tenure because he temporarily forgot the guiding principle . . . . win baby win. One size fits all.

Edit: If we read what Jarvis Jones has said this week, this is what keeps me believing in college football, but for the most part . . . . folks like Jarvis Jones that love and believe in the game and the team. Jarvis Jones will not leave UGA for the NFL at the end of the season, forget the money, this is a man that keeps old farts like me around and appreciate young men like JJ. Question that, read his comments this week. Nope, not going to do that for you, it is there for interpretation. JJ and Hines Ward, folks that is what Ogletree, Washington, Abry Jones and others are all about. Don't forget Kwame, while he is quiet, he is there.

Don't get me started on this board, I might type 400 pages . . . . All of what is presented on this board does not have to come from the media, many here have good, solid thoughts about our football team.

Buc IMO I thought boo should be ahead of IC he played with a hurt shoulder and never takes himself out of the game I just wish Gurley would of come in early but I think him and Marshall will be ready when there time comes.
I love how the D is playing and CTG already has 6 out of 9 commits own defense he is doing one hell of a job.Still hope the offense will shine in spite of BOZO and hope he really can open up the play book (time to go for a ride)!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone here will see a different IC this year. I like boo alot, but this year everyone will see why Isiah was recruited as hard as he was. He's leading the RBs group as a "leader," and is up to 220.

DWS, many on this board have watched UGA play football for several years. Every year, probably the past five years, many have questioned the play calling on the offensive side.

Defense also calls plays just to cover my tracks. Defense seems to be doing a bit better with their "very complicated" play calling than the offensive side that has changed "nothing" in the "Richt/Bobo" era. Correct me if I am wrong. The defensive folks say that Coach Grantham's defense is "very complicated". As Jarvis Jones says now, we have a couple of years under Coach Grantham and now we can fly to the ball, we understand. What the hell is going on with Richt/Bobo?

I have come to the conclusion that Mike Bobo is calling the game as Mark Richt wants it called. If that is not the case, then we don't have leadership from the top. By that statement I mean if the game plan or a particular play is not working, and Mark Richt does not like the call, then what prevents Mark Richt from making a change. More and more I am beginning to believe that we have the same problem on the offensive side of the ball that we had on the defensive side when we had WM.

Amazes me that I continue to see the same game plan called against every team that we play, year after year. If Florida and South Carolina know that we are vanilla, how hard is that to game plan for. Question: Have we changed the way we call plays on the offensive side in say . . . . the last two or three years . . . . If the answer is yes, then someone has to point me in the right direction, I have missed the change.

Some on this board have wondered and even blamed CT in certain situations. Is that not another mistake on the offensive side of the ball? Is there anyone that regularly comes to this board and believes that Carlton Thomas can run over a 290 pound defensive lineman, especially when they knew what Richt/Bobo were going to run. On top of that, there was not enough space created to allow anyone a chance to make a "FIRST DOWN ON THIRD AND 12." Is that what it takes to get a contract extension or a raise, or being voted into the West Palm Beach Hall of Fame. Sorry, I don't buy it, or accept it.

Coach Bobby Bowden said when bringing Mark Richt into the coaching ranks . . . . . A head coach does this . . . puts coaches in position to make the system work. Bowden said the only way for a team to advance is if you hire the right coaching staff to make the right choices. A head coach is an administrator.

Mark Richt gathered some of that information from Coach Bobby Bowden. The part that he missed was the part that brought Coach Bowden down. You cannot allow your coaches to become complacent. Mark Richt has done that on more than one occasion. He is still a victim to that cause, not sure if he understands or is as hardheaded as averagedawg says. I, by the way agree with averagedawg, I just take it a step further. I think that Mark Richt gets too comfortable after he has a good recruiting year. That is what Mark Richt does and I am not sure after his recruiting wins that he understands how to take his "wins" on the recruiting trail and get the most from these young men.

Those that disagree with this post should point me in the right direction. Season coming up should allow the Richt/Bobo believers room to straighten me out. Schedule will never be better.

Allow me this . . . have said it before, I think that some have said that Mike Bobo is a good quarterback coach. That leads me to this. If Mike Bobo is a good quarterback coach, what is the reason for AM to still talk about footwork and other lessons that third year quarterbacks should have a handle on. Maybe AM is dense. Have heard that he knew the playbook prior to his first snap. Guess someone needs to enlighten me. What does being a good quarterback coach have to do with being a offensive coordinator . . . . . maybe the same reason that a defensive back coach becomes our defensive coordinator. Just saying . . . .

bamawillie64 Temper your expectations UGA fans, yall beat the teams you should have and lost the ones against ranked foes so it is the coaching. Georgia is a hotbed of talent and the teams averaging 10 win steasons means they can't get over the hump. Little Aaron can only do so much, Richt needs to figure a strategy to get his team over the hump or he needs to go...I am a Bama fan and just saying from afar!

born2bAdawg, nothing would make me happier than what you posted above to come true. I don't doubt IC's talent, how could I or anyone else, all we have to do is look at the film.

I do know this, IC is not playing high school football now, this is the SEC. Lots of really outstanding football players on the field each and every Saturday.

While he is up to 220 as you say, I hope that he can block for his quarterback and also understand the playbook. More to the game than when he played high school football. Lots of BMOC's that are on the field the same time he is. There are times in the game that he is needed to do more than rip off 15 yards. I will hold my breath and hope that he is a "leader". This is not a shot at you, I just need to see what you are saying come from IC on the SEC football field. Over many years I have seen young men come to campus and not get a grip on what is in their best interest. If IC has someone move ahead of him, especially this year, will be hard for IC the rest of his college career.

Couple more thoughts. When was it that Alabama and LSU moved ahead of us in the SEC? Another question . . . . Why was that? Was it because of talent on campus or lack of, or was it a lack of coaching talent or lack of?

Are we (UGA) any better since Coach Grantham arrived? Why did it take us (UGA) several years to understand that changes were needed on the defensive side of the ball? Does anyone think about that as much as I do, and a few others on this board?

Do we have the same problem on the offensive side of the ball that we once had on the defensive side of the ball? Mark Richt has said that nothing will change on the offensive side, seems I remember the same words coming out his mouth about Willie Martinez, when WM was the defensive coordinator. This would not be a good year, considering the schedule Mark Richt for you to slip. Or, it might point out the fact that 10 wins a year satisfies President Adams. McGarity, hope you have a serious focus on UGA Football. Sooner or later UGA has to stand up and beat some football teams that are in the top ten not the top twenty five.

Do we have that kind of talent on campus this year? I think so, as far as the young men playing football, the other part . . . . not going to cop out, DO NOT THINK SO. Would love for Mark Richt to prove me wrong or . . . .

Edit: This is a good read about Malcolm Mitchell. Hope that he stays on the defensive side of the ball unless "truly" needed on the other side.
