Buc, Fond memories. Back when the first thing a kid did every morning was read the sports page.
Another great writer, Fred Russell, Nashville Banner, fair and informative. A great SEC sports writer. Also think he wrote for the Saturday Evening Post.
How about Lewis Grizzard? Started out as a young buck writing for the Banner Herald.
Back when journalism was journalism.

Buc you did it again! Spent the 30 to 45 minutes watching the Magill tape. Brought back a bunch of old manories. My best friend in undergrad & vet school played tennis for Georgia & was team captain in 1953. Knew Coach Magill well & even played a game against him. No match needless to say, took my tail to the cleaners. Did you knew he was a world class ping pong player as well. Quite a gentleman.
As always, GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!
My close friend was Dr. William McMullin, called "Moony" by his friends, ended up head of the Texas A&M equine department at their vet school.

Has anyone heard Lewis Grizzard tell the story of the "Greatest Sports Headline Ever"? Seems that UGA had a big D lineman named Harvey Dix (I think that was his first name) who was injured and going to miss the Auburn game. Grizzard bragged to a couple of his fraternity brothers that if the headline mad it past his editor it would be the all-time greatest headline in sports history. The headline read: Georgia To Play Auburn With Dix Out
Or so the story goes.
