In the “How Many” thread, I was responding to some good posts when a thought occurred to me, and I asked this question there. The thread rightly continued in its original direction without taking my detour. So – I’m creating a new thread (sorry about that – don’t like creating threads) to ask the same interesting question of everyone here. And that is:
We are all proud of our teams from 1896, 1946 and 1980. All undefeated teams. And our ONLY undefeated and untied teams in school history. On average, therefore, we go undefeated/untied every 42 years. Hopefully we can lower that number, but if so, we have to get busy. We’re already at 32 years and counting since the last one. And that’s what I’m interested in.
Starting in 1983 and going through to the present, which years are you the MOST proud of? I’m leaving out 1980, 81 and 82, since we are all obviously proud of those years (let me know if you aren’t).
Here are mine, in order. <ahem>:
2002, 2007, 2005, 2003, 2011, 2004, 1983, 1997, and PERHAPS 1992 (for personal reasons – I lived in Columbus, Ohio, and it was SWEET beating OSU in a bowl game. I’m sure I was hard to be around after that. They were glad when I left town.) I’m not saying this gives Coach Richt a PERMANENT pass, but it sure has made me a lot more patient than I otherwise would be. Will Muschimp has cooled my enthusiasm for bringing in Kirby Smart. But we need to get to the next level, and my patience eventually runs out, just like anyone’s.
What say you to your “proudest” seasons of the past 30 years?
