Buc,
This game serves to fuel a fire for a lot of us older Dawgs. The fact that it dates back to 1892 gives it the distinction of being the "Deep South's Oldest Rivalry". Lot of history and similarities in these two proud institutions. One of the greatest ironies within the series is that one of their most popular and successful coaches, Pat Dye, played at UGA and one of ours, Vince Dooley, played at AU. Also two great Heisman Trophy winners in Hershel Walker and Bo Jackson.
They unfortunately hold the winning series record of 54-52-8. Just goes to show that is a closely contested series. We do hold the longest winning streak at 9 games from '23-'31, and but lost 6 in row from '53-'58. Our largest point win was 41-0 in '46 and largest point loss as 44-0 in 1900. '96 was the first OT game in the SEC which UGA won 56-49. At the end of regulation it was 28-28. We have outscored them 1809 to 1771.
There was a time in the '90s I think when the visiting team was just as likely to win as the home team, but that changed when we lost 3 in a row '99-'01 and then won 4 in a row most recently '06-'09. Our '02 SEC championship appearance was guaranteed with a last minute 24-21 win at Jordan Hare.
I do have respect for AU, but nothing gives me more joy that to whip their butts. Always promises to be exciting and I can't wait.
