X's and O's and the 3 TE Offense

Hi everyone. I've been quiet for a while trying to forget the abysmal season last year. At any rate I'm back. ;)

Being an X's and O's kind of guy I was reading another blog and came across this site www.footballtimes.org/Article.asp?ID=218 explaining the 3 TE formation.

I'm thinking CMR's aptitude for offensive schemes and our depth and talent at TE as well as Figgins move to TE/FB maybe we could see the Dawgs revolutionize collegiate offense.

The site does a good job of breaking down the X's and O's of the formation and explains why it would be a nightmare for any DC to scheme against. Would love to see some of this next season.

What do you guys think? Am I giving CMR and Co. too much credit or do you guys think we can pull this off successfully.

Go Dawgs!!!!

For some reason, I seem to recollect Richt mentioning something along these lines recently. Lots of possibilities running the three tight end formation for sure. UGA does have the talent to apply this.

Anytime someone comes up with a new wrinkle on offense, the D coaches counter at some point. That works both ways. West Coast Offense, Tampa Two Defense.

More and more we see larger/taller heavier linebackers with more speed. This would seem to be the answer to three tight ends. For example UGA pulled #9 into the 7 area because of his speed, size and tenacity.

Will say this. Anything that Bobo does to change his play calling for the past serveral years cannot hurt our football team. Richt should have no problem implementing some plays from these formations, and he does have the players to do so. Out of the tight end formations, one Isaiah Crowell could and would be a holy terror.

Good find and thread Getdown 11. Hat is off to you.

I believe you are right Buc. I also seem to remember Richt mentioning the 3TE formation.

Getdown,we have crazy talent at the TE position. This could work nicely.

OK I will bite on this.....3 TE sounds good........but with some of the bonehead calls that Bobo makes can he make this work.......after all he is still calling the majority of the plays and unless CMR takes a bigger hand in or over ruling some of his calls I have very little confidence that it will work out......seems over the last several seasons that we have become a "pass" first type offense.......3 TE would be more of a "run" type offense and with our current stable of RBs I do not see this happening unless IC can make his mark early and often or C King really steps up his game.......

Ogredawg, I for one ABSOLUTELY see Richt having a more of a say on offense this year. The man simply doesn't have a choice, and he knows that.

When is a rabid dawg the most aggressive?

WHEN ITS BACKED INTO A CORNER.

Hope you are right DAWG1277......was said CMR was going to have more of a hand in the offense last year......with some of the play calling it was painfully obvious he did not......I will say from early reporting is that his attitude has changed to be more aggressive but I have zero confidence in our current OC......
