Guess most of us have heard everything that is out now about OSU and Tressel. Many seem to suggest more is to come later. I believe that.
There has been a lot of talk about Meyer taking the job at OSU, at a later date. I tend to believe that. I hope he does, that might be the place that he meets his come uppance. He is getting a lot of ESPN air time in his "off season/s". Makes him real attractive to colleges that have "openings". Myself, I was hoping that he would be back at UF this season. In my heart I believe that we were going to give him another bad memory in JAX. His little twist on how to run an offense caught up with him, worked for a while, but defensive folks find ways to make necessary adjustments. Think that Grantham has much of what he needs and looks to me that Meyer recognized that. His record will continue to look real good when he leaves the SEC and moves on to a lesser Big Whatever conference.
Would be risky at this point for Meyer to take the OSU job, who knows, the NCAA might get this case closer to where the penalty should be. Loss of scholarships and bowl games would not be attractive to Meyer.
Like Kiffin or not (I don't) he took the USC job, bet is that he knew what was going to happen concerning the NCAA. That is the job that Kiffin really wanted, not Tennessee or the Oakland Raiders. USC will pay off for Kiffin big time. Pete Carroll hauled butt to Seattle because he knew that USC was fixing to get hammered. Carroll and Tressel appear to be cut from the same cloth.
Below is a quote that I picked up from SI. Speaks volumes about Meyer to me.
Meyer, now a college football analyst for ESPN, even released a statement shortly after the news of Tressel's resignation stating that he wouldn't pursue any head-coaching jobs this fall.
“I am committed to ESPN and will not pursue any coaching opportunities this fall," Meyer said. "I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the people at ESPN this spring and remain very excited about my role with the network this fall.”
“Jim Tressel has been a respected friend and colleague for a long time. I wish Jim and his family the very best now and in the future.”
I hate to nitpick, but "this fall" leaves this case very open. And this isn't a job Meyer is just going to shrug off. He loves Ohio and this is considered a dream job for the man from Toledo, Ohio, who attended college at Cincinnati and was a graduate assistant at Ohio State from 1986-87.
