Well it sounds like smart is going to stay put at bama - think he's going to hold out to see if he has the opportunity to come home - if not soon or within a year - he'll probably go somewhere else

Can you believe that vandy offered auby's malzahn 3 million - guess they finally decided to spend some of their sec money - but malzahn made out alright got a hefty raise from 500,000 to 1.3 million (now the highest paid coordinator)

Maryland offensive coordinator James Franklin - new vandy HC - details not announced - doubt they pay him the 3 mil they offered malzahn

The 1.3 million deal that auby gave malzahn will make ALL the coordinators in the SEC happy - since UGA's search netted several DC's heafty raises (from around 500,000 to 750,000) - they are probably all licking their chops for the next coaching offer - guess auby doesn't see any severe penalty ahead with the scam newton stuff

Sounds like there are going to be several more coaching changes around the corner - some will not happen till after the bowl games

read somewhere that when UM made his announcement that foley called mcgarity and MG told him that WM was available - apparently MG had already contacted WM when the buffs and cains expressed interest in CMR - WM had been the highest paid coordinator - but he went from 900,000 to 2.7 mil - about the same as CMR

Good stuff RabunDog.

I also heard today that WM may consider Kerwin Bell as OC but doubt it. He's going to be a good one though and the uf nation would love it!!!

I do not see any changes in store for UGA this offseason, unfortunately. I think the string of consecutive 30+ point games bought Bozo another year. I don't have a problem with this if he is just a figure head OC and CMR is the one doing the actual play calling.

Ralph Friedgen out at Maryland
ESPN.com news services

Maryland announced Monday afternoon that it has bought out the final year of Ralph Friedgen's contract and the coach will not return in 2011.

If Maryland's Ralph Friedgen takes the buyout or retires, he will be the fourth ACC coach to win coach of the year and not return the next season. Here's a list of coaches who have done it since 1978:

Yr. Coach Next Gig
'92 Bill Dooley, Wake Forest None
'89 Steve Spurrier, Duke Florida
'78 Charley Pell, Clemson Florida

Friedgen will be paid about $2 million.

Former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach is said to be a leading candidate to replace Friedgen as Maryland's coach, although Maryland athletic director Kevin Anderson said that no candidates have been contacted yet.

Friedgen will coach the Terrapins in the Military Bowl Presented By Northrup Grumman on Dec. 29, against East Carolina, a source told ESPN's Joe Schad.

Leach has already had discussions with potential members of a Maryland coaching staff and has the strong support of Under Armour, the Baltimore-based athletic apparel company run by a former Maryland player, sources told Schad.

Maryland considered hiring Leach after last season but it would have cost too much to terminate the contracts of Friedgen and former coach-in-waiting James Franklin and hire Leach, a source told Schad.

Leach and Maryland were discussing a deal last year that could have paid him in the range of $2.5 million a season. It is believed Maryland will try to complete a deal with Leach as quickly as possible, a source said.

Kent State hires Hazell as head coach

Hazell was an All-America wide receiver as a senior at Muskingum (Ohio) University in 1986 and became running backs coach the next year at Oberlin (Ohio) College. He also was an assistant at Eastern Illinois, Penn, Western Michigan, Army, West Virginia and three years at Rutgers before joining Tressell's staff in 2004.

Hazell's last game with No. 6 Ohio State will be the Sugar Bowl game against No. 8 Arkansas on Jan. 4, but he will spend most of his time at Kent State before rejoining the Buckeyes after Christmas
