Buc, my favorite one for the Navy used to be, when you guys would say, "You know, the Marines are a department of the Navy", I would dutifully reply, "Yeah, the MEN's department!"  All in good fun--love the Navy, did most of my training on Navy bases.

November 27, 2010 Associated Press AUGUSTA, Ga. - A U.S. Marine reservist collecting toys for children was stabbed when he helped stop a suspected shoplifter in eastern Georgia . Best Buy sales manager Orvin Smith told The Augusta Chronicle that a man was seen on surveillance cameras Friday putting a laptop under his jacket at the Augusta store. When confronted, the man became irate, knocked down an employee, pulled a knife and ran toward the door. Outside were four Marines collecting toys for the service branch's "Toys For Tots" program. Smith said the Marines stopped the man, but he stabbed one of them, Cpl. Phillip Duggan, in the back. The cut did not appear to be severe. The suspect was transported to the local hospital with two broken arms, a broken leg, possible broken ribs, multiple contusions and assorted lacerations including a broken nose and jaw...injuries he sustained when he fell trying to run after stabbing the Marine. The suspect, whose name was not released, was held until police arrived. The Richmond County Sheriff's office said it is investigating. Several Marines who stepped in front of a knife-wielding shoplifter on Black Friday returned to Best Buy today to be honored by the company.

Cpl. Phillip Duggan, left, puts donated toys into a bag after a short presentation honoring the Marines involved in a scuffle last month, at Best Buy, Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, in Augusta, Ga. The store’s manager, Steve Maxcy, thanked the “heroes” and presented them with gift cards to the store. He also presented a $1,000 check to Toys for Tots. Representatives from Gerald Jones Honda were also presented $500 to Toys for Tots.

The Marines were working to collect toys for the organization on Nov. 26 when Tracey Attaway, 39, of Waynesboro, Ga., attempted to run out of the store with $1,500 worth of merchandise. Cpl. Phillip Duggan saw Attaway’s fight with Best Buy’s loss prevention team and attempted to stop the shoplifter when he ran for the door.

Duggan was stabbed in the back. The other Marines stepped forward and restrained Attaway until police officers could arrive.
