How does this D stop Ryan Mallett?

I do not believe that they can. I honestly don't see how we avoid getting torn up for 4TD and 300 yards next Saturday.

Well, last year, our D gave up 400 yards and 5 TD's to Mallet, and we won by 11. And that was with Cox, so we could still pull out a win. Anything's possible, I guess.

Christ almighty. Then why even bother playing? Why don't we just call it a season and go home if that's the attitude. Mallet passed for 400 yards against ULM last week and three tds. Big deal.
I'd hate to be a defensive player this week. I'll bet...BET they run gassers til they puke. But you know what's disheartening? All this gnashing of teeth, like the end of the friggin' world is upon us because the dawgs lost a close game. Yes, a close game. SCU racked up yards but scored only two touchdowns. That tells me something, even though it might not be what we want to hear.
But let me ask ALL OF YOU this: what did you expect from the season?
1) We knew we weren't going undefeated this year.
2) We knew we would lose an early one.
3) Nobody should be surprised that the offense struggled with Mike "learned-my-plays-from-wikipedia" Bobo running the offense.

A few observations, and please engage me if you disagree:
1) It's one thing to level a charge of quitting against the team, but quite another when the very next sentence is something along the lines of "this team sucks" "this team has no heart" etcetera etcetera. How can you all look at this game this way and quit on them so early in the season? It's disappointing for the Dawgs to lose, it always will be. But regardless of how the team and coaches act, the worse part of this team is that section of the fan base who bails at the first sign of trouble.
2) SCU moved up to #13 with that win. We dropped about 6 places. If we had won, we would have rose maybe three places tops. What does that tell you? It was a quality win for SCU. The season will prove this out and even the writers/coaches know that it was better for them than it would have been for the Dawgs.
3) We're not a top 25 team. Sometimes we have to accept where we are. We WANT to be. We want to be a top 10 team, but let's face it. Something stinks in Athens. That said, I would crawl over all of you to see this team play.
4) We've made 50% of the necessary coaching changes. One positive thing that will come from another 8 win or worse season is that it will precipitate the other changes and we'll finally have coaches that want to win. I truly believe that this was why Willy Martinez got to hang around so long. We just didn't have a bad enough season. If Mike Bobo, and possibly CMR can't find production with the talent they have...well, it's time to change leadership.
5) AJ Green, for all his talent and character, has to be the most selfish individual we have. Why? He knew what he did was illegal. Still, it was all about him, all about AJ. I say bench his ass for the season and force the other wide outs to step up. I'll bet there are kids who rarely get to play who would give testicles for the opportunity. What the hell? There might be some diamonds in the rough there.
6) We will beat Arkansas.

YO LIMEY - GREAT POST

Maybe it's denial - that sc should be a better team than we are - well they were yesterday - the season will tell whether they can hang in there or not - I know a loss hurts - all of us would like for us to be NC - but we still have some changes to make - I know folks don't want to wait - but change takes a little time - now if we don't get better - I agree - raise hell - but I'm optimistic that things will get better - if not - I think more heads will roll - I don't think McG is going to settle for also ran

As far as aj - don't care if he plays anymore at uga or not - yes he would probably help - and like I said before if he were to come back and be the reason we beat tenn/fla/aub/gt - then he'd be back in my graces - if not good riddance - but sometime somebody is going to have to take the shock of the big discipline hammer falling - if he does come back - he is sure going to have to do mighty good - other receivers are already having a good year and he might not go as high in the draft as he thinks

I'm giving CTG the benefit of the doubt - see if he starts changing personnel to get the best players on the field and shows signs of improvement - like you said - he might work em till they puke this week - we'll see

CMR/CMB needs to jazz up the offense and do something different than the 25 plays they run all the time and turn AM loose - or they need to hit the door - I admire CMR a lot and I give him credit for turning us around from a very mediocre team to at least one that has been competitive - but maybe his calling is to be something besides a football war general in the SEC

GO DAWGS

As far as I'm concerned, limey, I certainly haven't bailed on this team. If I had, I wouldn't be here posting. I think you may be confusing bailing with voicing a desire for perfection (or as close to it as possible).
I knew we weren't going undefeated, as you said, but to lose a game because of pee-wee league tackling (again), moronic play calling (again), and seemingly no desire to play 4 quarters (again) is getting old. You say people shouldn't say the team has no heart--then we shouldn't be watching players standing around multiple times when they could have been involved in the play.
You say we knew we were going to lose an early one--I didn't know that, and I certainly didn't know we would lose one in that fashion.
We're not a top 25 team--agreed, but we should be. With the talent on this team, there is no reason to accept that we aren't. The "problems" we were supposed to have this year were the freshman qb and the transition to the 3-4. As best I can tell, both of those are positives. Murray has performed admirably, and the problems on D aren't because of the new scheme, it's because of the usual poor tackling, and not going 100% on 3rd and longs to stop the drive. Same old, same old.
I will never bail on this team, but I will be here praising them after good games, as I will be here calling them out when they deserve it.
