For sure Wilder knows how the recruiting wars are presented. His Dad being a pro football player, and a good one at that, seems to have his son prepared for the hoopla some throw at these young guys.
There are a lot of players that I pull for each recruiting year, some head our way and make me happy, others head in other directions and it leaves me feeling a bit empty.
Every team (especially the SEC teams) have their way of recruiting. I am a person that believes in consistency, have been that way most (most) of my life. It appears more and more to me that Coach Richt is that Rock of Gibralta that is paying dividends on the trail. Mentioned before that Central Florida produces many quality football players, let's keep Coach Richt and his forces in this area doing the good work.
When we get a outstanding player from Central Florida or Florida period, that is a huge boost for the UGA program. This area is crawling (literally) with gators and it is hard to move these guys away from Gainesville, Miami, FSU, UCF, USF and other schools located in the state. Especially hard pulling them away from Gainesville at this point.
One more point. When Martinez was released, many thought that it would really hurt our recruiting in Florida. Can see where some would think that, especially since Martinez played football in South Florida . . . Miami. Well, we don't have Wilder on our roster as yet, but I dare say that WM not being on the staff has not hindered our efforts since he moved on to Oklahoma.
Wilder would be a great signing. Lots of folks in Florida are watching this one closely. Lots of chatter down this way. Hoping we can turn that "chatter" to woof, woof.
Go Dawgs!
