This is a bit of an odd moment, but those of us who grew up in Turner Country know that it was a big moment in UGA history.
On September 22, 1997, former Georgia defensive end, Atlanta Falcon and Carolina Panther Bill Goldberg made his in-ring debut on WCW Monday Nitro, defeating Hugh Morrus to begin his record 173-match winning streak. On July 6, 1998, the newly-Christened "Goldberg" won his 108th straight match, defeating Hulk Hogan to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.
What are your Goldberg memories? Whether at UGA, in the NFL or in WCW, talk about Big Bill, but talk especially about these two moments.
Personally, my favorite thing about it came long afterwards, when in an interview Bill Goldberg said that one of the best things about his time in WCW was going coast to coast and hearing America chant a Jewish name. Goldberg, like myself, has always been very proud of his Jewish heritage.
So share, folks! Share! WHO'S NEXT?
