Yeah Buc, when they ran out on the field it looked like ND or GT with those gold helmets and they always dressed out well over 100 players for every game. Sadly, back then if you didn't play football, you were considered a \"nobody\". They were good...and I mean REAL GOOD. I remember a game in the early '70's when their D held the opponent to NEGATIVE yardage for the WHOLE game. Yep, they were the best in HS football imo.
Most of those players for Valdosta never went on to do much in college or pro's. Many believe they were either burned out or nothing could compare to playing for the Wildcats. One RB went on to GT and after he scored his very first collegiate TD, a reporter asked him if it was his most thrilling moment playing football........he answered.......not nearly as big a thrill as scoring a TD for the Valdosta Wildcats.
