Recruiting

Read a couple of published articles about UGA (and others) signing friends and relatives to keep a hands on effect concerning the primary athlete the school is interested in.

My personal opinion is you basically do what you have to do as long as rules are not broken. This is not something new in college football recruiting, has been happening as far back as I can remember. All of us want our school to not only compete, but compete nationally, meaning of course register in the top ten. Play for MNC's.

UGA has a case like this going on now. Outlaw signing with us, however looks as if he will have to do some Junior College time before reporting for duty in Athens. That is a good thing, get those credits together and start fresh.

Looks like the Dawgs and many others are after the top rated QB in the State of Georgia, Nick Marshall. Outlaw being a relative, will cause some conversation concerning the reason he was signed by UGA.

Facts are these . . . after Outlaw spends his time at the JC, he becomes a \"free agent\". He can sign with any school that wants him or he chooses to play for. Another point in Outlaw's favor in my eyes, he is 6'7\" and has proven himself on the high school level. I hope that he turns out to be an incredible receiver and does that at UGA. If one of the benefits turns out to be Nick Marshall, see nothing wrong with the way the recruiting process was handled.

One thing we know is this . . . Coach Richt does not offer and then pull a scholarship offer unless you are threatening teachers and so forth. That is a good thing in my mind. There have been several/some cases where a recruit gets injured before reporting for duty. Coach Richt sticks to his word and does not pull the young mans chance at a future. Couple of examples, Aaron Murray, Brent Benedict, both with broken leg parts prior to moving to Athens.

There will be a lot said about this, and has already been reported in the AJC and other newspapers. Tenth Street crowd will be howling if both of these athletes end up in Athens. Don't really care, plan to continue breaking their \"stingers\" off for years to come.

Spot on, Buc. I believe Caleb King also broke his leg in his senior year in HS.

Should have mentioned Caleb, sadlerdawg. Good case in point about an athlete that much was expected of when he entered school. Anyone that has played football knows that when you try to take the field after breaking a leg . . . . scary as heck. Caleb in my way of thinking really strapped it on and came on the last half of 2009. Think that Ealey had a lot to do with Caleb rebounding from the leg and \"press clippings\".

Whether you are in sales, marketing or whatever that pertains to growth, you have to build a bridge that can be crossed many times. UGA honoring its word, playing by the rules, providing an education not only benefits the athlete and his/her family, it benefits UGA and those of us that support UGA.

Build that fence Coach Richt, Coach Grantham, Coach Garner and others recruiting for UGA. Inside that fence, build those bridges that draw these young athletes to UGA.

We had several young players that I would liked to have seen in the Red and Black, but won't. Can't look back, move forward with this 3/4 defense and expanded offense. In the end, the one thing that any peddler knows is this . . . . results are the answer. Think that Coach Richt laid some serious ground work in the recent past. Coaches, make us proud . . . . . again.

Greetings Gents, Buc & sadlerdawg.. I add my voice that it all starts with CMR and without question he is in for the long haul and what's best for his players. A hard life lesson is what goes around comes around in time. Remember those you pass on the ladder of sucess going up will be the same ones that will greet you if you ever come back down that ladder,treat them kindly. I am beyond ready for spring..Red Buds and Dogwood hear my call. Damn rodent saw his shadow.. Girls' softball starts this weekend here at home.. need a heat wave. Some of you Fla. Hey Buc.....back in the day at Valdosta High School when Wright Bazemore (the Bear Bryant of high school football) was the coach, I remember a Tifton, Ga. player's father \"getting\" a job in Valdosta so his son could play for them. As you know, VHS won many MNC's and could have probably beaten some colleges. Now you know why!!!

So....this type of thing has been going on for 40+ years and even at the high school level.

yankeedawg1, nice comments. Will say this to you, for those of us that have lived here for a while, it is cold. I live on Merritt Island and tonight the temperature will be in the low 30's. Know that it gets colder up your way, but that is cold here. Have had a fire in the fireplace every night for sometime now.

I truly believe that Coach Richt (don't take this wrong) learned a lesson the hard way with some of his decisions. Friends are one thing, however most of us know this . . . don't loan money to friends and family. Same goes with hiring practices in college football.

Our most recent commit, Amarlo Herrera is proof positive of the coaching change, referring to Coach Grantham. AH said that he is glad to be heading to UGA. Reason . . . . loves the 3/4 and wants to play for Coach Grantham in the new defense. I would wager to say that we will see quite a bit of that in the coming years. Great hire, no doubt.

Now we are beginning to tell our age wlayton . . .

I remember this incident like it happened yesterday. That was one case, there were other \"rumors\" of Coach Bazemore bringing in players, mentioning that there were jobs available. Valdosta beat my high school for the state championship in the early 60's at Grant Field. When Valdosta took the field to play, thought they had brought the Third Armored Division in. Never had I witnessed so many folks suited up for a game. That \"CAT\" would win at any cost. History, love history. Thanks for taking me back wlayton.
