I'm so glad you made this post OldSouthDawg. I've been getting annoyed with all the CMR bashing going on in Dawg Nation.

I give CMR an A until '07. He's had to learn on the job from the beginning having no head coaching experience, and he learned this year that sometimes your friend just isn't getting the job done. I think making tough personnel decisions will be easier for him form now on.

IMO, the combination of injuries and still having CWM on the staff ruined '07. This year was the perfect storm of CWM, Joe Cox meltdowns, refs inexplicably calling imaginary penalties (OK State and LSU), and the third toughtest schedule in the country. This year was rough, but I can't see why anyone could realistically think that we'll have any more 5 loss seasons considering CMR's record.

I give CMR an A since Dec 2. He finally fired CWM, and all he's done since then is offer Bud Foster, Chavis, and Smart our DC job: the best guys in college football. From what I've read here and elsewhrere, CMR did everything right with the Kirby Smart situation. He'll continue to pursue the best guys available.

As to your original point OldSouthDawg, let's look at the other coaches in the SEC:

Kiffin: Where to start.... Tenn. might have actually dodged a bullet, because if Kiffin had stayed there, they'd probably be on probation soon. May end up on probation anyway....

Urban: Players have to come to him to ask to be suspended for a game??? Enjoy the post Tebow era/defense graduating or leaving early for the NFL (if he coaches next year).

Saban: Next bidder!!!

Petrino: Well, just ask a Falcons fan....

Auburn: Not exactly the same, but their administration should rank up there with Petrino and Kiffin.

Meanwhile, Mark Richt is only 90–27, 7-2 in bowls, and has two SEC championships. No NCAA probation. A tad better than the previous decade and a half before him.

There is a lot to be said for integrity. If CMR's worst fault is believing in his friend a little too long, well, I'd say let's not get to carried away calling for his head after one poor season.

Totally agree about CMR....he has ALL his priorities in perfect order.

He also played MS as a freshman because he new UGA would only have him for 3 years. He has always wished he had done the same with KM. He also knows AM will be playing for 4 years. Great player but at 6' (at best) he won't really be on the NFL radar like MS was.

Goes to show that Head Coaches continue to learn. Looking back is always a hard thing to do, however that is how we learn . . . . from our mistakes. Just too easy for these young men to enter the League.
