Buck Stops Here

I'm sure CMR would stick by the old saying \"I'd rather lose and be me, instead of win and be you\".

Win it comes down to morals and integrity I have to agree with upholding that piece. However there is no reason whatsoever that you cannot have both.

Having discipline and accountability builds much of that integrity we love so much out of our coach, kids and program.

CMR is a smart man and I'm confident he knows this, but due to always taking the high road he will not come out and say anything to elude to a change in staff. He keeps everything inside.

Youth indeed has some to do with the mistakes and turnovers, but coaching does play a factor. It's apparent in play calling, preparation and lack of adjustments or worng adjustments in games.

I'm hopeful and pretty confident some kind of change will be made.

Swampdog, do you think Richt gets a big fat bonus at the end of the year because he is a moral man. No. He does get one if he wins an SEC Championship. And CMR has some Jonathan Sullivans and Odell Thurmans on his record. So just because he is a great man doesnt mean the kids care about the message he is giving them. There are bad eggs in every program. Heck Tebow is prolly one of the most morally sound college football players in the nation, and he plays for an SOB like UM. Does that make UM a morally good guy. Not for a second.

I agree that a great program SHOULD prepare kids for the NFL and future careers whatever they may be. But thats not what the coaches are paid to do. Weis has several NFLers on that roster, and many of his players will go on to do good things, but does Notre Dame care. No. They want to be in a BCS game. And at the end of teh day, thats what it comes down to. Winnning games. Thats what the University wants, the fans want, the alumni, and down the list. If you cant do that consistently, you wont have a job very long.

All you need to do is compare Urban Myer to Lane Kiffin.

UM >
When confronted with the eye gouging video Urban Myers said \"but other people do it too\". In the end the player who did the eye gouging ended up having more integrity than his coach. Dude, that is pitiful.

LK >
On the other hand Kiffin suspended the players until facts were known and then threw them off the team permanently. He said \"anybody who puts themselves into those situations can not be part of UT football\". His defense was crippled with 2 of three speed players gone but he still stood the moral ground.

I believe it is possible to both win and tech moral integrity. We have a wonderful head start towards that end. I personally put Richt in the same echelon as Tony Dungy. And just like Dungy he is stuck with a promise he made to an inept coordinator. Dungy had to get fired to realize that his loyalty to the institution must outweigh his loyalty to the individual. Now it is Richt's turn to learn same lesson. I hope he learns it sooner rather than later. It's a shame to lose people like Dungy and Richt.

and please ... just because your school has no ethics doesn't mean that it is an okay thing. You can keep your Myers. Please don't try to sell me any though.

I believe those are two very different situations. UM should have dealt with BS more harshly, but I have been on the bottom of a pile and alot of things go on that are unspeakable. Not excusing Spikes, but it does happen every game. The LK situation is a little different because those 3 players were accused of ROBBING A MAN A GUNPOINT!!!! Whether it turned out to be a pellet gun or not. I believe only Hitler would have let them stay on the team.

Swampdog if Coach Richt made a promise to an individual coach or coordinator that his job security would never be in doubt, that would bother me. I do understand your point. I lived through the Coach Dungy fiasco and all that surrounded it, my pro team is Tampa.

The relationship that Coach Richt and Coach Dungy have is based on mutual respect, means a lot to me. However, I also have greed in my bones . . . . If one turns enough pages in the book, my bet is that #7 playing for UGA listened to Coach Dungy's counsel carefully. Coach Richt can't or should not be like some folks in this nation . . . . there comes a time when decisions have to be made. This is a bit like getting re-elected. Go Dawgs!

You just keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better. One coach acted decisively on his own accord while the other was hounded by the media until he almost did the right thing. Doesn't matter if the situation was different. Good people do the right thing whether they are alone or in a crowd.

Gatorstrong, when you have been on this board as long as me, you'll know that nothing will be gained from brown-nosing.
Can't believe you threw Meyer under the bus. I'd take Meyer over Richt any day!
You cannot reason with someone who thinks that committing a felony is no worse than an attemtped eye poke at the bottom of a pile.
Heck, he even thinks that the two guys kicked off the Vol's team were defensive starters.

Dude, be proud that you are a fan of the greatest team in college football and just read and laugh quitely to yourself when you read posts that claim to \"rather\" have CMR's moral character than a winning fire.

Just trying to help.
Note to most: Not aimed at you as I can tell that most of you are realistic and humble at this point. Bad season.
