Buck Stops Here

I want to be sure that I have got this right, or close.

Coach Richt determines who his coaches are.

Coach Richt goes over every game plan, and puts his stamp of approval on same.

If and when problems arise, Coach Richt is the last sounding board. Something along the lines of what President Harry Truman said . . . . \"The Buck Stops Here\". Lip service is fine, especially when it holds true to what President Truman said.

I have had a hard time coming to this conclusion, started to express myself a couple of weeks back, but did not. No more blaming WM/MB or any of the other coaches. What we have as a team is what we have. If it is not the coaching, then it must be the players. If it is not the players then where pray tell does the buck stop?

I listened/watched Coach Richt's post game conference and damn near went to sleep. His talk about turnovers is the same thing I have heard him say game after game. I understand that, my problem is if it is happening game after game with good and great athletes, why does it keep sticking its ugly head up . . . . I am sure that if Coach Richt had an answer, he would correct that on the spot. Problem is, the same problem has continued in 11 of 12 games this year. Is that coaching or does this problem sit squarely on the players shoulders?

The mass exodus or so it seemed tonight from Athens does not bode well for someone. Quite frankly I have never seen anything like this before. Personally, don't think that this is going to go away, folks are becoming more and more frustrated with . . . . incompetence . . . . I appreciate effort, but have a hard time with excuses and that seems to be the standard for this team. I think that the ball is in Coach Richt's court and therein lies the solution to the offense, defense and special teams.

I agree with you, somebody, CMR, has to take responsibility. It is not a quick fix. Firing wm,although I agree he should go, will not do it. Quit kissing the players and holding their hands and singing cumbaya. This whole mess, as I see it, is loss of control of the team by the coaching staff. I am certain I saw a player push a coach in the game against Auburn, and Willie just said nothing to him. Are they scared. I hope not. If so we are deeper in a hole than we realize, and last nights game proves it, we let the man who we couldnt let beat us beat us,ourselves.

the problem is ...

there is more to life than football. The kids who play for UGA are real people who will be real fathers with real families and real jobs. Personally, I would rather lose games than be one of those schools who uses kids to win games without teaching them any character or responsibility (aka Urban Myer). Richt, like Tony Dungy, is an almost perfect role model to help turn these kids into men. We should do anything we can to keep him. However, he isn't the only role model and it is possible to find a role model who can win.

Trying to decipher this Swampdog.

Don't think that I have seen posted anywhere that these young men should not get a good education, go on to be good fathers and citizens. Their route to getting a quality education seems to have come from God given abilities that most of us have never had.

Football as a game has proven time and again to be a great character builder. Many of those young men playing not only at UGA, but UF and UT and other schools have gone on to greatness off of the gridiron.

As far as Coach Richt's job, security of same, that lands directly on his shoulders. I would love to see Coach Richt remain with UGA his entire coaching career . . . . but I also want results from the man in that position. It is very easy to look back and see ones accomplishments, it is also easy to look at the present and worry/rejoice about the future. If Coach Richt is the right man to lead UGA he will be the person that decides that.

Tony Dungy is a man among men.

I agree that football is not the only thing that these young men are at UGA for,BUT These fine young men are getting a free education from a highly revered school to perform on the feild. On the flip side of that is the coaching staff that are WELL paid to perform on the feild. I too am proud of the good christian student athletes that we produce at UGA. All I say is that production in the game is the primary requirement for the free education and paycheck that the students and coaches get. As always, i am less upset with the players as I am with the coaching staff. The attitude that we have been displaying the last couple years, is a direct result of a lack of focus from the coaches. We are too easy on those KIDS. That needs to change. HCMR needs to give some of these players a little tough love.

One other thing- the money that pays for those free educations and heavy salaries comes from the bulldog nation. Alum, season ticket holders, charatible organizations...etc that are made up of fine christians that want to see these kids get a good education and also want to see us win. Its time for Richt to earn his paycheck and sideline the kids that don't produce or keep making personal fouls, and boot the coaches that are not making the grade. He's paid too well to let us all down like this.

If/when we loose to TECH, we will have a 6-6 record for the season. If i were right only 50% of the time at my job I would be fired and I would expect it to be so, if I didn't resign. Only head coaches and weathermen get such a benefit! We left our best efforts in the locker room at half time. We did not bring it to the feild. That is not the kind of character I personally want to build at UGA!

GOD BLESS UGA VII... last night he rolled over in his grave, and sighed!

I agree it is only football, but coaches are paid to win games. Everything else in the SEC is secondary. Perhaps Richt should be at a division II school where the focus is less on execution and winning?

You present a false choice. It is not either win games and have a Switzer program or lose games and turn out fine upstanding men. There are plenty of leaders who can turn out fine young men while winning. We need to find one soon before it is too late and recruiting is killed.
