Dawg fans lame? Never. Passionate? Absolutely. Loyal? Absolutely. Forgiving of mistakes? Depends on the score.
Personally, I could care less how anyone else views the Dawg Nation as a whole. If I'm the only one left standing I'll wear my colors to the day I die. I still have two big-azz oval-g's on the Titan. I'll have them there if we don't win another game.
Thing is, we've often been accused of being fickle as if we own the patent. I heard a Michigan fan tell me \"we had to be gator fans last year.\" I couldn't have been more horrified. I'll bet you, and bet you big, you'll never hear anything even close to that from a Dawg fan. Sanford will still be packed for the remainder of the home games. Nobody will wear brown paper bags. People will still be calling for Willie's head. More will be calling for Bobo's head. Some will be calling for CMRs. But they all show up on Saturdays. You can try to tell me that you won't watch any more games, but I'm calling that as crap. It's just not possible.
Buuuuut. If dissention makes me lame in some eyes, so be it. If noise brings a call to be quiet from the back row, so be it. That, and my personal gripes, are all part of the same thing. Every one of us has one thing in common: we want to win. We've had enough years with the current regime to know that something serious is broken. We've been served a big ol heaping of humble pie, and some of us don't like the taste, but we all get to eat it. Fair enough. We've served some up ourselves over the past decade. Personally, I'm never going to tell people I disagree with to shut up. It's wrong on more than one level. If I have a counterpoint, I'll give it. A lame fan base? Not on your life. Anyone who wears the red and black is okay with me, even if I don't like what I hear from them. Actually, it makes me feel pretty good that we have so much passion. You can't have passion without a beating heart, and from what I hear, the heartbeat of the Dawg Nation is strong. All of this is nothing more than heart burn.
"The freedom of individuals to verbally to oppose or to challenge police actions without thereby risking arrest is one of the principal characteristics by which we distinguish a free nation from a police state."
