Sometimes I wonder,...

why it is that we fans, mere spectators of a collegiate sport, often lean moreso to the negatives of our program, rather than celebrate the positives? A quick glance at the Table of Contents is a glaring example of the agnst ridden reality...Moreover, just a click over to another blog or fan site and you will see more of the same...Interestingly, it doesn't really matter whether you are a Dawg, Vol, Gator, Wareagleplainsmantiger, or Detergent, there always seems to be a palpable level of fan dissatisfaction...As a means of comparison, here is a thread I posted following last years loss to Bama.... dawgs.com/georgia-bulldogs/17112-remust-...ry-season.html#17112 or this post dawgs.com/georgia-bulldogs/1897-re-colle...otball-101.html#1897 from 2007.....and the beat goes on...!

What's my point you may ask? Well, I usually consider myself a \"glass is half full\" type of guy, laid back, give me an ice cold Corona or a crisp glass of Merlot and we'll sit on my deck a rap about the glory years till the shadows grow long and the cicadas come out. What I would love to see is some discussion about the positives,...like Joe Cox! Remember him, the guy that was in the cross hairs a few weeks ago, only to recently turn in some staggering, record setting stats!!! Or maybe the blinding, straight line speed of Samuel. What about the emergence of our TE play with White and Charles....its been a long time since we had a serious TE threat! We are beginning to see the awakening of a very exciting and potentially dangerous offense. Perhaps one of the most dangerous to stalk the hedges in some time!

As for our situation on the other side of the ball,...well, I've still got confidence in CMR and trust that he will make the proper and necessary decisions, when the time is right...Entering the meat of your SEC schedule doesn't qualify in the timing category, IMVHO. Am I happy with the D....NO!!!,...But at the same time I'm not going to fill a public forum with alot of bile and ill will for all to see. We don't know who these \"guests\" are, but they often out number the members 2:1....Think about that!...Recruits do their homework, I know I would, if I was on the cusp of making a life altering decision.

That being said, the season is still young and there is plenty more football to be played. I'd much rather read about the on-going teet twisting between Kiffin and CUM, than what the Urinal and Constipation has to say about Willie....It's that \"protect the family\", southern thing that keeps me from pulling the trigger...But truth be known, I have unlocked the gun cabinet and I'm looking for the oil and cleaning rag....

GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very good post NC_Dawg.....and you are probably right.

My feeling for pointing out some of the things going wrong is because as fans, most of us are looking toward a NC (that's positive) and not another underachieving season.

IMO, the ONLY way you can win a NC is by being very good in ALL 3 phases of the game....offense, defense and special teams.

SO, in an ironic sort of way, I believe we are all trying to be positive because we feel we have the talent to win a NC. But when one of the 3 phases of our team is going to prevent the possibilty of it happening, we recognize it and voice it.

Underachieving isn't something that is acceptable to this fan base.

I to agree in a way, but what we all see is the emergence or our offence and the decline in our D. It is hard to be positive when with the lack of play from our D the offence will at some point begin to sputter. I am 57 years young and have been a dawg fan all my life. I have always been postive and looked forward to each season. But you know, the last few years, I dread the season, for our teams over the past 4 years have no fire, they have no desire. Sure the 07 team came on strong at mid season, but something is not right at UGA, no like it was when we had ok recruites and turned them into good players that gave 110%. Now we have top 10 classes and a lack of effort.

I don't think we are all being negitive, it just that we are scared what may happen once we face the teams with good D, such as TENN, LSU, FLA, ect. I for one do not have the swager or confidence that I once had that we wil go out and win a game. It is bad when you have doubts about beating Vandy and Ky when those were always a sure win.

I completely understand where you are coming from. However our history and the reality of 120 Division I teams, all vying for the same shot at a chrystal ball,...well, the odds aren't particularly good. Check the link: www.georgiadogs.com//pdf4/410939.pdf?&DB_OEM_ID=8800 . If you set the bar at concensus NC, the separation between our last two was 38 years, with many near misses in between...Including two for CMR!

I'm not saying we shouldn't point out our faults. I'm referring to this need to crave, cut and disect Monday - Friday, only to exhume the equine corpse and renew the process the following Monday. Heck, we spent the better part of the off season worring about our faults...everyone remember? So now that a bit of reality has seaped in...all is lost??? You should have been sitting in Section 107 when Goff was HC. I think he changed DC's twice, perhaps 3 times in 6 years. Donnon wasn't much better.

Hell, I can recall a time when I would be enraged and depressed by a loss and no one's friend for a day or so...now, well, there's a lot more out there to be enraged and depressed about. It's a game played by young men that are prone to make mistakes, and coached by older men that have the same tendencies. If we are fortunate, we get to see when player and coach meld into a well oiled machine. Sometimes, lady luck smiles on us and what could have been a near miss, turns out to be a moment destined for folklore....We are due....

Some people just have to rant to get it our of their system. From now on, I am going to ignore the rants and try harder to concentrate on the positive. We are 2-0 in the SEC, and FL does look vulnerable. Not a strong passing game, which bodes well for the Dawgs.

You NAILED it DawgFanInTn...my post from my Utah hotel room last night was indeed a \"GET IT OUT OF MY SYSTEM RANT\", that's all. Maybe I should've just typed it up, read it 3 times, and then just hit delete? What's done is done though, for better or worse, I chose to post rather than delete.

I've been holding some kind of profanity laced tirade in for a few years now and thank God, this forum is full of understanding Dawg fans that could read (or ignore) my rant, chime in w/their own 2 cents, and not ban me from this wonderful forum for the rest of my life.

I’m not banned yet am I Steve?

Moving forward, I too plan on focusing on the positives like I usually do!

Besides, I need to get a new UGA visor in Athens this weekend; messed up and spilt battery acid on mine so it now looks like something that you'd only find in Steve Spurrier's closet.
