No Word on Suspensions

Georgia could be without three players to start the 2009 season due to suspensions, according to UGASports.com.

The Web site reported that tight end Bruce Figgins, defensive end Justin Houston and wide receiver Tony Wilson would each be suspended for an undetermined period after violating team rules.

Head coach Mark Richt would not confirm the suspensions Wednesday, however, saying in a statement through sports information director Claude Felton that \"there is nothing to report\" at this time.

Georgia was plagued by off-field incidents a year ago and began the 2008 season with more than a half-dozen players suspended. Things had been quiet on that front so far in 2009, with Richt noting that he was employing a stricter approach to discipline this year.

Still, Richt cautioned that these issues are likely to crop up at any program.

\"We do have to remember these guys are human,\" Richt said last month. \"These guys are being watched more closely than probably any group in the state of Georgia. There's no place to hide. So am I going to sit here and say that these guys are never going to make a mistake again? That's very unrealistic, but I think at least we’ve had a very good start and guys, as a whole, want to do the right thing. But shoot, who knows what tomorrow brings, right?\"

If only we were starting the season against Georgia Southern or Western Kentucky...

Then again, that's always who Thug U and F$U and Tennessee suspend their players for. Suspending a starting TE, a promising DE and a second-string wideout for an away game against a team that was ranked as high as #6 last year...now THAT shows a zero-tolerance policy! Match that, Kiffin.

the zero tolerance policy is great, I'm just getting so tired of some of our boneheaded players. Again, I say put their butts on the bench for a while.....they'll get the picture then.

I'm a little sick to my stomach.

It's drugs. Bruce Figgins has been suspended for six games due to it being his SECOND (!) drug test failure. Justin Houston is gone against OSU and SCarolina. Tony Wilson failed a drug test and decided -- due to an ankle issue -- to leave the team.

I've seen preseason off-the-field antics before, but THIS is ridiculous. I say bench Houston for six games and kick Figgins off the team. Get your priorities straight, boys. We don't need ANYONE that bad.

As I said in a previous post, this is not drinking and having a little fun, this is Drugs. I am so tired of the off field problems and injuries. If this is what we get to have a top 10 recuring class every year, I say let them go to the FLa, Tenn, Ala. I am in agreement with some others, we are becoming thug u. I have never seen so many problems as we have had over the past 2 years.

As I said again, Dooley won with average players, he just knew how to get 110% out of every player. We don't need this hot shot players that yank schools and play schools not letting anyone know where they are going until the last minute just for all the attention. Besides, I think we have had 6 or 7 top 10 recruting classes since CMR has been here and what have we done that is so great since 2005.

This year will be just like last year, come fall we will be subject to another 8 maybe 9 win season.
