we have a lack of things to talk about

Coaching folks UP is what occurred in Miami last season. Like the Tuna or not, he gets results from those that wear the uniform. Hoping to see more of that this year with UGA.

Lions did sell the farm for Stafford, and I sure hope it turns out that 50% of the country is right about Matt being selected first. Reminds me a lot of Rivers that guides the Chargers. Matt has spirit, and of course a much better arm if we are judging QB's by length of throws.

The fans will eventually decide when and if MS gets under center. Even though it will be near impossible for the Lions to win, regardless of who is calling the plays. DC is going to be the starter, supposedly coming to camp in the best condition of his pro career. If I had to play behind that line, I would get my fanny in top shape also. They lose the first four or five games, screaming fans and ticket sales will become an even larger issue. To say nothing of the talking heads and beat writers and the problems they will cause. (Stir up) . . . . Just my two cents.

Quote from Tom Curran of NBC Sports

Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions, No. 1

On the eve of the draft, Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said, \"Quarterbacks, I think, historically, have struggled when they've been taken early. There are a lot of reasons for that. I have some theories I won't get into detail about.\" In about five years, Mayhew stands a good chance of having to revisit why Matthew Stafford didn’t play to his No. 1 overall pick status. Recent history is littered with the remains of quarterbacks taken high by bad teams. They were doomed from the time they stood next to the commissioner and held up that No. 1 jersey. With a contract guaranteeing him $41 million, how can the Lions possibly let Stafford watch for the amount of time necessary to allow him to understand the NFL and have enough talent in front of him to prevent him from getting bludgeoned? They can’t. They won’t. He’s been fed to the Lions.

You're right Buc, as soon as they lose the first 4-5 games, the fans will be screaming and ticket sales will suffer leaving the Lions no choice but to put MS in the game. That's why I said he will be put in when it's feasibly possible, giving him a little time before the massacre.

\"Oh Lloyds, are you there? We have a major insurance claim to make.......Lloyds?.....Lloyds?....are you there?\"

wlayton, will be watching Denver and Detroit closer this year than in previous years. Like seeing our young men succeed at whatever they do after college life. Personally think these two cities and teams got two outstanding young UGA football players and citizens. :woohoo:

This was the main reason why I didn't want Matthew to leave early. Not only are there only three (!) guys who left early who are currently starters in the NFL (Aaron Rodgers, who doesn't count because he spent two years in JuCo and one year playing baseball, JaMarcus Russell, and Ben Roethlisberger), but the Lions would be the ones picking him. Angry as I am at him for obviously using Georgia as a springboard for the NFL -- let's face it, #7 was always here to go; he was never a college quarterback, just an NFL QB in waiting -- and as convinced as I've always been that he's never been a leader (except for one week after the Oklahoma State game), I didn't want him to fail in the NFL, and I never wanted him to get hurt. Looks like both might happen, and fast, in Motor City.

To the original point of this post, wlayton, yes, I think Stafford will start this year, though not Game 1. Let's hope no one Theismanns him his first time out, and wish him the best of luck.

Totally agree with you dapolla, especially about MS being a leader (or lack of). Also put perfectly when saying he was a NFL QB in waiting. Couldn't agree more. There was so much talent on the team last year with just about ZERO leadership and MS didn't step it up in that category. Not so sure he's a \"natural\" leader just a natural talent. May not need quite as much at the next level as in the collegiate level but he's going to need to show some leadership qualities. Especially in Detroit.
