Longo w/ a shoulder injury now. Maybe these guys need a new strength & conditioning coach? Or maybe a new regimen of vitamins, etc....I'm not liking this already. I'm trying like crazy to be optimistic, but everytime I turn around its some more bad news.

Yeah, Dawg1277, you can kind of chalk one year's injury bug up to bad luck, but when it continues into a second straight year, they're obviously not doing something right.

I've had issues with Ron Courson since all the injuries before the 2004 season. But what are you gonna do? You either play them hard and have a 2005 or 2007 defense, or you rest them for fear of injury and have a 2006 or 2008 defense. You makes your picks, you takes your chances.

Agreed, dapolla, but there's got to be a happy medium that our coaches can't seem to find. Plenty of teams practice and play hard and have good defenses without having our injury problems of late.

Collegiate football personal has changed drastically in the past 9 to 10 years. Linemen, both O & D, didn't weigh 300 plus pounds 9 to 10 tears ago. Look at Erk's defence, most weighed somewhere from 250 tp 270lbs. Now these mommoths go 320 to 350lbs. Big guts hanging over their game pants means big injuries in practice and game day. Players are just too damm big today! Our limemen used to be quick off the ball and had great lateral speed, no more I'am sorry to say. Tuesday practice was called \"Bloody Tuesday\" in Dooley's time. Now if we have full contact practice someone gets hurt and it usually isn't a minor problem, a blown knee or broken bone. Guess you have to roll with the flow and take your lumps as they occur. Keep the faith.

A lot of really good points made in this thread, both pro and con. Know that Tampa Bay was having this same problem and it continued for two or three years. There was a change made in the conditioning program (removal of person) and the problem disappeared right away. Not calling for removal, think that all avenues have to be monitored closely.
DawgDoc posts a good point about the size of today's athletes. I remember Steve Greer playing for UGA, and would bet that he did not weigh more than 225 or 230. We all know that sometimes the players weights, height and so forth are fudged a tad and they definitely were in Steve Greer's case. Times and athletes have certainly changed.
