Speaking of The Rivalry

In my \"Your Favorite Games\" thread, I say that the game I look forward to the most every year is Auburn. I took a good deal of that thread talking about the Auburn game.

Well, thanks to the magic of YouTube I just relived what was, in my opinion, the greatest Rivalry game ever. It wasn't close, and it didn't mean as much as the 2002 game or the 1982 game and it wasn't as incredible as the Miracle on the Plains, but I wasn't there for any of those games. I was there for The Blackout. Check it here:

Unbelievable.

Thanks dapolla!!!

I loved that entire video, especially when the announcers were dancing along with the music. The Blackout is another great example of why it is easy to love Georgia football and be so proud to say GO DAWGS!!!

Playing in the SEC means a big game every week! Depending on where you live, and who you run with, favorite rivalries run up and down the schedule! Even though UF is the rivalry game I look forward to every year most, I must agree with you, dapolla. Hands down, the Blackout game with Auburn was the most exciting, electric game that I have ever witnessed in Sanford Stadium. To look around and see the whole stadium black was awesome. We tried a blackout a few years before in honor of Vince Dooley, but it was a futile attempt. I had reservations about the success of another blackout attempt. It all vanished quickly upon arriving in Athens that day. Everyone was in black! Then felt a little disappointment when the team was dressed in home red for warmups. When captains came out in red, the reality of the blackout staying only in the stands was setting in. Then when the team broke onto the field in black- if Sanford would have had a roof it would have blown off at that moment! The ground was literally shaking that day! Auburn didn't stand a chance that day and they knew it!

I am not into rap or hiphop music at all, but to this day, when my youngest daughter is blaring her music and Soulja Boy comes on with that song, I stop and reflect on that day. A special day in UGA lore that would be hard to top........ until we win that elusive National Championship next year! ( Ain't that right, wlayton) GO DAWGS!!!!
