Your post made me stop and think wlayton. Went to the roster of DE's that are at UGA and the incoming DE's.
Neland Ball 6-6/232
Roderick Battle 6-4/261
Demarcus Dobbs 6-2/266
Andrew Gully 6-4/250
Justin Houston 6-3/240
Jeremy Longo 6-3/255
Cornelius Washington 6-4/217 . . . Have always liked this player.
Brandon Wood 6-1/280
Freshmen
Montez Robinson 6-5/235
Abry Jones 6-3/250... Listed as a DT, some talk about DE. (?)
Know that every young man that comes to UGA is not going to be a Julius Peppers. Do start to wonder with this many athletes on scholarship at DE why we aren't able to find a couple of gems. By the same token, maybe in the group above there are some hidden gems. At my youthful age I have learned one rule, or maybe thought I had learned, patience is a virtue. Maybe I am not in that category anymore, really want to see that excitement return to a \"once\" proud UGA Defense.
Digging around a bit wlayton, wondering if maybe it was coaching, or lack of recruited talent.
John Fabris, DE Coach was named defensive ends coach in 2001. Many seasons as DE Coach, Fabris apparently understands the position pretty well as UGA has had 10 defensive ends taken by the NFL.
Coach Martinez took over the Defensive Coordinators job in 2005 and to me it looks like there has been a decline. I hope that CWM comes out next season, blows me out of the water and proves that he is the MAN. Would be the first to congratulate him . . . . just don't see from his coaching record and experience where he is able to ADJUST to the game as it is being played. This is going to be a year I feel will answer a lot of questions concerning the UGA Football Team. Go Dawgs!
