dapolla, i did mention all the things you stated above and i am right there with you on they should have let him finish the season.
Sorry, golferdawg, that wasn't directed at you. It's just frustrating that we would behave like any other school in the country and have such a short memory. We've always prided ourselves in not acting like quick-reaction buffoons. If we had fired Coach Felton in January last year, would we have gone on that miracle run?
Look, to my mind, having one miracle run is sometimes better than the expectations that come along with having a consistently great program. Look at this year in Georgia football, for example. We went 10-3 and finished in the top 10, but everyone's acting like we went 5-7 and lost to Vandy. Expectations were so high that 10 wins wasn't enough. Does UTEP (formerly Texas Western) fire its coach every time it doesn't beat UK in the National Championship game? No. They had a miracle run and it sustains them. I wasn't old enough to enjoy the Final Four run in 1983, but I was glued to my TV during the SEC Championship tourney last year. Felton should have been allowed to finish the year. Unless he was pulling some Harrick-like shenanigans that we don't know about, it's the least they could have done for him. My stomach is still turning.
