leaving early for the NFL does it help recruiting

What are the groups thoughts ? If a top player has ambitions to play in the NFL and our program has a history to getting players ready before their senior year (MS, KM etc) shouldnt that give us some edge in recruiting the top players ? Junior or Senior year in college verses instant millions of dollars in the NFL have to be a pretty strong lure. I hate to see that talent walk off the field when they could be coming back, hopefully as 5th year Seniors to win us a National Championship. If a top notch player has narrowed down his choice to 2 schools and one has a history of preparing and sending non-seniorplayers to the early rounds of the NFL draft and the other school has a history of holding onto the players 4 or 5 years (which to me says they will win more games and conference titles) which is most appealing ? Also if you have alot of talent and that schools players are entering the NFL early do you think they might see that as an opportunity to get to play as a true freshman or not have to wait as long to start ? Is our recruiting strategy taking advantage of what we have to offer ? I dont really have an opinion but i'd like to hear yours. 2009 SURPRISE SEC EAST CHAMPS AND GO FROM THERE ! GO DAWGS !

There is no greater stadium than Sanford, no greater running back than Walker and nothing greater in all of football than being a Georgia Bulldog !

i think it does and feel free to disagree. a kid growing up playing sports always dreams of playing pro (i did anyways). If you play through highschool then a college like UGA contacts you saying \"yes...we are intrested in you\" im sure they are thinking about it hard. espically if the school puts numerous players into the NFL. Early or not i belive that it is going to help us because ultimatley...people want to make money!!! and while playing football certainly isnt EASY money, it sure would be FUN!!!

Downside to people leaving early...the leadership is leaving which is starting to worry me. at least we still have curran and owens. step up young pups!

Goooooo Dawgs...Sic'em...Woof Woof Woof!!!

I agree...bottom line, nowadays kids want to play in the NFL....period. Just don't redshirt the kid and get 3 good years out of him, that's about all you can expect.

Don't we have the most (or top 3) players in the NFL right now. We are the new Miami from the 80's and 90's... They won championships though.. here is hoping for an unbelievable season.. The 09 season is the \"WE MUST BELIEVE\" season. so cliche i know, but it's true.

golferdawg, that's why this radio sports show host down here doesn't think CMR is a great coach because of all the NFL talent that has gone through the program. Hard to argue his logic although there's more to just coaching X's and O's IMO.....like recruiting, developing great qualities in the kids, etc.

B) B) B) UGA gives these student athletes a free ride for playing a sport for 4 or 5 years depending on a redshirt year or not. That's a contract between the athletic department and the athlete. If that person decides to leave early for the NFL why is he not required to pay the school back for the portion for the contract he reneged on. I am not complaining about his opportunity to go to the NFL, I just feel he owes the school some compensation for not for filling his obligation to the school. I really feel this should be part of the package at signing day. If they are that good and go 1st or 2nd round in the draft the money should be no problem. It might make a few of the more run of the mill athletes from jumping ship when really they are not ready. Look at Ward and Brown from the 06 or 07 draft. If a coach leaves or breaks his contract or the school fires him there is a buy out programed into the contract. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. If the player gets injured the school continues his scholarship even when he is unable to play. I, for one, am sick and tired of these people coming to UGA and leaving early without some payback. Just my thoughts about this early leaving scenario.
As always GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!
