I think this could be part of the D's problems....Coach Richt said this after the UK game when he was defending Martinez (this from the AJC):
“It’s the same basic defensive scheme that we’ve had since we got here. You know, it’s not like a kind of philosophical issue. I mean, the philosophy of our defense hasn’t really changed hardly at all in eight years. And we’ve not been in this spot in the past. So that’s not the problem.”
I think that IS the problem. Our defensive philosophy hasn't changed, yet offenses HAVE changed...dramatically. There's alot more speed--teams are now recruiting track stars and teaching them to play. Alot more spread offenses. Alot more dual threat qb's. Our D does good against the basic pro-set type offense that was prominent in 2000, as we only gave up 7 and 10 against SC and ASU, but against O's with some wrinkles, not so much.
