It's hard to have swagger when you don't have leadership. The leader on the O-line (Sturdivant) on the defense (Jeff Owens), his lieutenant (Marcus Washington) are all out for the season. And God love Matthew Stafford's talent and his grit, but in clutch, down-and-out situations he's shaky....So without that leadership ON THE FIELD...I mean, folks, you can blame Willie and CMR all you want, but they can't put on the pads and get out on the gridiron. You have to have great leadership on the field in order to prevent a great team from stomping you that badly....!!!
Spot on,...hammer please meet nail...the true test for any
TEAM is whether they can withstand rapid swings in momentum...and when punched in the mouth, rise up and punch back. I saw the first chink in our dawged armor when Bama came calling...Unfortunately, our LEADERSHIP, or lack thereof, reared its ugly head again last weekend. With the clear and discomforting difference in that
\"we\"attempted to give Bama a game....while we imploded and embarrassed ourselves
AGAINin Jax! This point was never so clear during the 3rd quarter of the telecast when the camera panned the Georgia sidelines and settled on a shot of Stafford and Moreno sitting
alone on the bench.....True to comparative journalism someone in the booth switched to a view of Tebow walking the UF sidelines and pumping not only his teammates but the crowd!!!!
We've got skills.....Hell we've got MAD skills, but experts alone cannot a team make...We need only look to our not too distant past...ala Quincy, to see what a fundamental lack of leadership coupled with a fist full of prima donnas will reap! Mind you, I'm
NOTsuggesting that we've reached this point, yet,....but I am suggesting that this group of young men are in desperate need of a leader and no one has stepped up to the task!
As for the game...I'll not even begin to discuss the \"so-called\" defensive let downs until the entirety of the first half offensive mistakes, miscues, brain farts, etc....are addressed. Go back and watch the game...we pushed them around on O until we neutered ourselves....SOUND FAMILIAR?!?! Sorry folks, both the Bama and Gator debacles fall first on our lack of leadership, followed closely by our offensive dysfunction...Yes, our defense had it's fair share of mistakes, but they held their own early in the first half. It was our O giving UF an EXTREMELY short field that ultimately lead to our demise. Sure we can travel the missed penalties path, but the short answer that that dialogue is you score or get scored on...Saturday we got scored on in the most embarrassing manner the likes I've not seen since the Barners lit up Sanford in 99....
OK,...so where do we go from here. I suspect we will be a mean and angry bunch for the rest of the season. Perhaps make examples of a few that remain on our schedule, play in some modest bowl and look back on a year that offered great promise, yet yeilded much less than we had hoped for. Collectively we will all anxiously await word on the future of those who may decide to try the professional ranks, while equally be entertained by the youth that decide to wear red and black for the first time. Point is, THIS is the University of Georgia Football, for better, for worse...and it could and has been worse. I wouldn't trade it for anything!
GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GATA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
