Brief first day analysis

The good looks better than the bad, but there is still some bad that needs to be addressed. I'm pleased with quarterback play, most of all. Stafford passing for a career high 275 yards with 2 TDs and no interceptions. I really do think that's the key. Say what you will about Knowshon, but he can't carry the load by himself. Georgia rises and falls with quarterback play. To be great, Matthew Stafford is finally going to have to step up and be the player he was meant to be when Georgia first got him. He has underachieved these past two seasons and now is the time for him to rise to the occassion and become a leader and one of the great SEC quarterbacks of all-time. This Blair Walsh guy might be our best kicker since Kevin Butler himself. A 52 yarder from a true freshman should strike fear into the hearts of many. Sure, there are kinks here and there, but nothing that won't be worked out by the time we begin conference play. Georgia always starts slow and plays its best the second half of the season anyway, so this is pretty much par for the course for us and no cause for alarm.

So far, Alabama looks like trouble. Too early to tell about any of our other opponents, they haven't played anyone that allows us to really access their skills yet, although I do hope that, in their usual arrogance to run up the score and tell everybody \"hey! we can score 50 or 60 on the little guy\" Florida played its best football today and showcased what it will bring to the 2008 football season. Because if that team that beat no-June Jones, no-Colt Brennan Hawaii 56-10 shows up in Jacksonville, I'm going to be licking my chops.

UGAChemDawg, good post. I live on Merritt Island, traveled south to Lauderdale to visit with my daughter and of course, watch the game. Noticed that the state of Georgia was not carrying the game, too bad. My only concern really was with the defensive line, but like you say, this will work its way out. As for Alabama, watched that game also. They are for real, and beat what was supposed to be the best team in the ACC. The way that Clemson played reminded me of the UGA/Tennessee game last year, which I hope to never witness again. Alabama played good, hard nosed football and I look forward to their visit in Athens. Should be a terrific game, and I guess that is what it is all about. . . .

Excellent post. I agree with you and Buc in your assessment of week #1 results. We got the job done; there were a number of positives which were encouraging, but obviously a lot of work yet to be done.

I was relegated to listening to the game on the radio. Like most everyone, I have true affection for Larry Munson as \"the voice of the Dawgs.\" But he has slipped significantly, and I found it difficult to follow much of the game action from his play-by-play.

I watched the Bama-Clemson clash on primetime. It became more of a Bama bash of the Tigers. The Tide was impressive. Playing real football, they went toe to toe with anyone and everyone on the opposite side of the line of scrimmage. Very impressive debut for the '08 Crimson Creatures! They could be serious contenders this year for the SEC West.

I think the Dawgs did a good job and looked pretty good. Quite a few mistakes, but nothing that can't be ironed out this week. The penalties were just nerves and lack of discipline that can be dealt with. The 21 we gave up wasn't great, but it was 38-0 when our 2nd and 3rd string came in. The passing and running games looked great to me. I just hope we don't lose any spots in the polls because we didn't win by enough. I don't think the coaches will punish us in their poll, but the media poll might. I really hate that Jeff Owens is probably done, but like with TS, we have plenty of talent to step up. We'll know more next Saturday, CM will be a tougher dress rehearsal than GS was.

I was not happy with the fact that so many people left before the game was over. We are the top rated team in the country. We need the fan support.
I was very happy with Stafford and all the quarterbacks. Cox and Gray both looked good. I was very pleased to see our receivers make the tough catches. Caleb King and A.J. Green are game changers.
Jeff Owens is probably gone for the season, a big loss. He's a great leader and we are going to miss him.
We have to focus on Central Michigan, one at a time.
Alabama and Florida look tough but it's hard to define things this early.
We need all the support we can get. The offense looked great. The defense will come around.
GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good call about the crowd leaving early, average. I had forgotten about that. A bit disappointing, to say the least.
