HYPE-U SEC Preview

Herbstreit's all right. I have a much greater respect for him after meeting him at a company function early this year (just two days after the LSU-OSU game). Without even being led (meaning I didn't ask him anything about Georgia), Herbstreit said that Georgia was his preseason number one, even that early, and that the end zone celebration was the mark of genius in Mark Richt and was his vote for play of the year, even though it wasn't an actual play.

Not only that, but he tried not to talk positively or negatively about Ohio State, even when prodded by southern folk. I think the reason he doesn't go whole hog on the SEC being the only conference is that he thinks that would also betray bias. He likes to give everyone a fair shake.

dapolla, I buy that about Herbstreit. I've always thought he was pretty objective myself but most people kept bashing him. I've always liked him and his opinions unlike other guys like Corso and May.

Lookit... I'm as big a Big 12 fan as there is, having been raised in Big 8/12 country and having several degrees from Big 8/12 schools. I think the Big 12 South is about as tough a division as there is in football - the SEC East is the only division that is clearly tougher. BUT... for anyone to say that the Big 12 is a better conference than the SEC, who has produced the last two MNC's, is smoking crack.

And Kirk Herbstreit is an idiot no matter what he says. A few years ago when Nebraska snuck into the back door of the BCS championship game after not even playing in the conference championship game, Herby said (before the game), \"Nebraska clearly still deserves to be there. Blah blah blah... body of work... blah blah blah.\" After the game, and after Nebraska got their asses kicked, Herby said, \"I said all along that Nebraska didn't deserve to be in the game.\" I lost all usefulness for Herby at that point. I don't care if you make a bad prediction, but at least be a man and admit that you were wrong. But his ego won't let him.
