Actually, RxCowboy, we have already won three national championships this year, in Women's Gymnastics, Men's Tennis, and Equestrian. This would be four team titles in a year, not to mention the individual swimming and diving, gymnastics, and track and field titles we've won.
In terms of national titles our best school year so far has been 1998-1999, in which we won four national titles: in Men's Golf, Women's Gymnastics, Women's Swimming & Diving, and Men's Tennis, all four of those NC's coming in the winter/spring. All four of our NC's this year would have also been won in the spring.
In terms of national titles, SEC titles, SEC tournament titles and prestigious bowl wins, our best school year is not just one year. In 1998-99, we won four national titles and five SEC titles, along with the Peach Bowl. In 2005-06, we won two national titles and seven SEC titles, though we lost the Sugar Bowl. In 2000-2001 we won three national titles and seven SEC titles, along with the 2001 Outback Bowl. So the count goes 98-99 nine titles and a bowl win, 05-06 nine titles, and 00-01 ten titles and a bowl win. This year we have won five SEC titles and three national titles so far, plus a share of the SEC East and the Sugar Bowl in football. You kind of have to choose a nine-title, bowl-winning season in 1998-99 as our best year, though 00-01 is REALLY impressive. We have a chance this year to have won four national titles and five SEC titles along with the Sugar Bowl and a share of the SEC East in football, equalling that incredible 1998-99 school year.
By the way and for the record, the last time a Georgia class did not celebrate at least one SEC title was the 1967-68 school year, sandwiched between Vince Dooley's first two SEC titles. How's about that for Title Town?
