Circular Dawg Logic (A Dialogue)

Dawg Fan: We have the best conference in the nation. But we can't win national championships, like teams in other conferences, since we can't ever have undefeated teams, seeing as how we always beat up on each other.

Non-Dawg Fan: But doesn't that apply to every conference? Why couldn't another conference who also has no undefeated teams, simply declare that it's due to the fact that they beat up on each other?

Dawg Fan: But when they beat each other they're not actually beating up on each other, since their teams aren't as good as SEC teams.

Non-Dawg Fan What do you base that on?

Dawg Fan: The fact that we beat up on each other.

Non-Dawg Fan: Are you actually unaware of how moronic that sounds?

Dawg Fan: Oh yeah? Well what about this for a reason? We play smash-mouth football, and no other conference does.

Non-Dawg Fan: So what do you base that on?

Dawg Fan: We beat up on each other.

Tech just lost to Clemson....I guess that same logic applies here. Your conference is beating each other up, too. Clemson lost to BC, Clemson beat Wake Forest, Clemson beat Tech, NC State beat FSU, FSU beat Miami....Hell, just about every loss the top teams in the ACC have is against......each other, except for that debacle that Miami had against Louisville. You're just like the SEC. You beat the teams you're supposed to beat, but you are beating the crap out of yourselves in conference. Sounds like the same things that go on in the SEC to me.

I do not know any dawg fans who talk like your imaginary friend.

For winning the Natty give every Dawg a bone AND prime rib steak.

Don't worry, dude. I know this guy. I have been a member of this board on and off, and under different names, since 1999. I have had many verbal jousts with the likes of stiggywiggy, buzzin, and other non-dawg fans. They always act like they know football, but they are only here when we have a down year......

Maybe we can save this thread with some facts.

The NCAA has 15 teams in all of D 1 football history that have won more than 650 games going into this season. Of those 15 teams 5 are SEC teams. This clearly demonstrates that more than a few programs have had long term success and have a chance to win year in and year out.

For a comparison the Big Ten has 3 teams in the top 15 but Penn State won the vast majority of their games as an independent so they do not really count. The Big Ten is Michigan and Ohio State and a bunch of barely relevant also rans. In fact the two losingest teams of all time are in the Big Ten with Northwestern and Indiana.

The Big 12 has 4 teams in the top 15 in Neb., Okla., Texas and Colorado. Since Texas game from the SWC it is hard to look at the history of the SWC but the current Big 12 has 4 quality teams historically.

The PAC-10 has but one team USC in the top 15. In fact you have to go all the way to Cal at number 33 to find the next PAC-10 team. This is why the PAC-10 is viewed as a bunch of tofu eating cream puffs. One team historically beats on everyone else.

The ACC has no one in the top 15 but a few in the top 20 led by Ga. Tech. The Big East has Syracuse in the top 15 but that is not saying much. It is a fairly new conference.

From a historical perspective the SEC is clearly a superior conference because 6 teams start each year with a decent shot at the national title or at least the conference title. Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, LSU and now Florida all have the recruiting, financing and pedigree to have national title hopes. The depth of the conference is what separates it from most others. The Big 12 now has some good teams as well. The Big Ten is a two team league and the PAC-10 is a one team league. The ACC hasn't had enough success and neither has the Big East. These are the facts and I pulled all this info from the NCAA website. I have a spreadsheet if anyone wants it.

The Univ. of Georgia has now won 699 games. Hopefully this saturday we will become the 11th member of the 700 win club. We are 699-377-54 in our 1130 games.

For the love of all things sacred Mr. Admin...let this thread LIVE!

Kentdaddy. And thanks for recalling the win-loss ratio. Given the current downturn, I'd completely forgotten about our approach to the 700 club. Wouldn't it be sweet to break that barrier with an unexpected and complete dismantling of the Gators?!?! Stranger things have happened. I recall a certain match between the Dawgs and the Gators in the mid 80's. Coach Dooley's unranked Dawgs were to due battle with the #4 ranked Gators. No one gave us a snow balls chance, including dawg fans. Suffice to say that after 60 minutes of Henderson, Worley and Jackson, the dawgs handed the Gators a 24-3 butt whooping, much to the shock and awe of the Gators. Their subsequent loss brought a quick and abrupt end to any hope of an NC.......IT CAN AND HAS HAPPENED!!!!

Underdog37, there are only a meager few that have been around since the late 90's. I happen to be one of them. You wouldn't be from the Dalton area, would you?

As for this Dawg fan, I'll hope for the best and brace for the worst. I've followed dem' dawgs for over four decades, seen the highs and the lows. We will get through this period, perhaps with a few unexpected wins to help season an otherwise tough and tasteless record. CMR has worked wonders for this fine institution and as Underdog37 clearly noted, those that have taken the opportunity to spew criticism are only here because we are down. This speaks volumes about their sense of sportsmanship...

GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
