Naming It For Vince

The problem with naming the stadium after Vince is that CMR is probably going to best all of his accomplishments, and in relatively quick fashion. Within the next decade, Coach Richt will probably pass Dooley for most bowl wins, most national championships, and most SEC championships in UGA history. I think we should hold out on renaming something like the stadium until we see what Richt's legacy is. Then maybe we can have something like Vince Dooley field at Mark Richt stadium.

After Richt's tenure, we might be calling it The University of Richt!

keep sanford stadium as sanford stadium. but having an ahteletic facility named after you is pretty cool. between the hedges at sanford stadium has a ring to it. that shall never change. but then in 10ish years they will have to build a new building for cmr. just my thoughts.

There's a lot of venom going towards MFA for not renaming Sanford Stadium, but here's what I say. Sure CVD was the greatest coach in our history to this point. But that's not taking into account the level of glory he took us to in ALL levels of athletics as AD. Vince became AD in 1978 and was \"relieved\" of his duties in 2004. That means that he is responsible for every SEC championship and tournament championship the Lady Dawgs won, as well as all but three of their appearances in the NCAA tourney and their sole appearance in the championship game. He is responsible for all but the last three Gym Dawgs national championships. (that's four, by the way). He is responsible for the rise to power of the Lady Swim Dawgs. Jack Bauerle, Andy Landers, Suzanne Yoculan, Manuel Diaz, Tubby Smith, Mark Richt, and David Perno were all hired by Vince Dooley. Not CVD, but ADVD. I think it's very fitting that the best AD we have ever had (and possibly ever WILL have) should have the athletic department essentially named after him. Good for you, Vince.

I was in Chapel Hill recently to visit my daughter at UNC. They have a new UNC Basketball Museum that's pretty cool. I'm not really a Tarheel fan but my daughter drug me there and I must say I was impressed.
Of course after seeing what they have done, my thoughts were, how about a UGA Football Museum? I know that's in the plan but how about a football exclusive museum; name it for Vince, make it free to the public, make it interactive. I am sure many former players would love to contribute their artifacts, etc.
Football is to Georgia what basketball is to UNC. We went on a Monday afternoon and the place was packed.
As always, GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!
