2 UGA players arrested--Alcohol involved SHOCKING

Well, the LONG offseason has just barely begun & we already have 2 football players booked and bonded:
CB Donovan Baldwin (21) - DUI
FB Fred Munzenmaier (19) - Underage possession of alcohol

You know, I'd be willing to bet that at least 90% of all the under 21 years old college students in Athens are engaging in underage drinking (Just wanted to make that point, I leave it up to you guys to interpret it for what it's worth).
Not that I personally ever did that B) but still, these guys gotta do a better job of NOT GETTING CAUGHT. My gosh fellas, you're on the best football team in America, either call a cab, get a ride, or keep your drunk @#$ at home. To his credit CMR has already suspended both players for AT LEAST the opening game against Ga. Southern. I sincerely hope that the other players will take notice of their colleagues mistakes and be mindful of the consequences of their decisions this offseason.

One of the kids thought he was flagging down a cab. It turned out to be a patrol car. We all had our wild days as kids but the spotlight is on these kids. It's kind of like being a preacher's kid, which I know all about.
Coach Richt handles these things so well. He is firm and fair unlike one fatso in Knoxville.

Best thing you can do for some of these guys is put them out front where all can see. They will have a price to pay not only to law enforcement, also UGA. I realize that these two are not starters, but I don't think for a minute that if they were starters, they would have gotten any less. Good for the team, good for the young men. This however is not high school, you are now playing for a team that truly has national championship aspirations.

There is not a scholarship player or walk-on that does not want to hit the field on Saturdays wearing the red and black. Worse than taking the car keys away at sixteen . . . I sure remember that.

Also, not to be holier than thou . . . my wife and I enjoy our bourbon and water watching the Dawgs.

ATHENS --- University of Georgia freshman linebacker Akeem Hebron has been suspended for the first two games of the 2007 season as a result of his arrest early Sunday morning on charges of underage possession of alcohol.

UGA head coach Mark Richt said Hebron will also have internal discipline and community service work imposed in addition to the two-game suspension.

“We regard this as a serious matter,” said Richt. “There are team rules as well as civil laws that have to be adhered to. Akeem will have to pay a price and hopefully he has learned a lesson that will serve him not only during his college career but also for the rest of his life.”

I like what Hebron said when asked if he had learned anything from being disciplined. Long story short, he sounded as if he had learned a lesson that will serve him well, probably for many years to come. When we talk about players with \"star\" qualities, Hebron is one, however, he had to leave the University of Georgia under similar circumstances. Damn glad to see him back.

averagedawg, agree with your comments on the discipline issued by other programs. One or two in particular.

I don't see how any football player @ UGA would have trouble catching a cab or getting someone to take them home. You know, the cops that did arrest these players should have just gave them a ride back to their dorm or wherever they live. I know plenty of cops who would have done that. The cop was either one of two things: 1. He was a new cop and thought that it would make him look better for arresting two UGA Football players. OR 2. He was a jean short wearing with a mullet hairdo gator fan who thought he could ruin the greatest season in the history of Georgia football by arresting two of our players. Yeah, kids that age make mistakes but come on. The cop who arrested them must be a real A$$ Hole. I have SEEN plenty of cops call a cab or just give someone a ride home when they have had too much to drink. But, I guess the cop really wanted to teach these kids a lesson this time.

First, if you're going to quote a statistic like \"90%\" then you need to supply data to back it up. I'll wager the percentage is a LOT smaller. Second, that others are doing it is no excuse. They know the law.

these guys gotta do a better job of NOT GETTING CAUGHT.

Are you really advocating getting better at breaking the law?

What's really disappointing about that is that Munzenmaier is the first recipient of the Larry Munson scholarship...

I agree with Buc...these kids need to be punished immediately, not allowed to play till their fourth strike like at a certain orange mountain school. Kids this age are GOING to break this particular law, RxCowboy, the way you did and I did and all of us did. I'm not advocating \"doing a better job of not getting caught,\" but I am saying that teaching them a lesson early is important. These kids are going to drink. What they need to know is that they CAN'T. They are role models on campus, they have HIGH profiles, and they can potentially hurt their team by breaking this particular law, or any law for that matter. Some kids (apparently, Hebron included) NEED to break this law and get caught so that they learn the lesson; they might not otherwise learn it.
