I think the egos will definitely collide. The thing is that Spurrier has said over and over again that he's not a defensive guy, so he may just let B VanG do whatever he wants. Isn't that what he did with Charlie Strong? GatorinGA, help me out here...

I don't think Charlie Strong was ever a Defensive Coordinator under Spurrier. He was a LB coach for the Gators up to '99 and then joined the Cocks as DC under Lou Holz. He rejoined the Gators as DC under Zook. Meyer kept him when he joined the team.
I remember that Spurrier let it be known during the '96 championship season that Bob Stoops ran the defense his own way and that SOS stayed out of it. Heck, he probably did not even know the defensive players' names.
I would bet that VanGorder has free reign.
BTW, C.Strong is a great coach and I'm shocked that he is not a HC somewhere by now.
EDIT: I guess I should have Googled Charlie Strong BEFORE I posted.
He left the Gators after the '94 season and spent '95-'98 with Notre Dame. That must be why Holtz hired him when he took over for the Cocks. Sorry.

HAHAHA averagedawg, great line!
Yes, VG benefitted from having tremendous talent on his D while at UGA but his hiring at SC still worries me a bit. I don't know if he's a jerk or not but I do know he's a heck of a D coach. I mean come on, obviously he is VERY FAMILIAR with CMR's offensive scheme and that does not bode well for UGA vs. USC games in which the DAWGS seem to always struggle to put points on the board. Seriously, next year, CMR needs to give SOS a taste of his own medicine and attempt to run up the score on the Cocks! Still, if the game goes according to it's usual form, we'll be lucky to escape Columbia with an ugly 13-12 victory.
It helps to have a David Pollock or a Thomas Brown. He's a carpetbagger.
