I think the people who thought Bobo was a genius Sept 2 (myself included) were basing that on his demolition of a supposed good OSU team, which no offense, rxdawgboy, just doesn't appear to be as good as initially thought. And nobody's turning on Martinez quicky, those grumblings have been going on a while.
I don't mean to argue with anyone. But the Oklahoma State game is over, I've eaten that crow, and it is done with. As of Sept 2 I'm here as a loyal Dawg.
But the funny thing is, having discussed the Oklahoma State game alllllll.... summer long, I didn't hear much of any criticism of Martinez. Our (Georgia) defense under Martinez was in the top 25 in 2005, and top 10 last year, and will finish in the top 25 again this year. Any time you promote an assistant to a coordinator position there is going to be a bit of a learning curve. Keeping the unit in the top 25 while climbing the learning curve is doing a dang fine job if you ask me. This defense is very young and inexperienced and will improve. I would be shocked if we saw another performance like that.
I said last summer, during the discussion of the Oklahoma State game, that I firmly believed that HCMR
will win an MNC. He's won division and conference championships proving that he is capable of putting championship caliber teams on the field. I've seen nothing yet to shake that belief. It is just a matter of time.
Tom Osborne became head coach at Nebraska in 1973. He won his first MNC in 1994. What a shame it would have been had Nebraska fans not been loyal and patient.
Go Dawgs! Sic em!
