Some Perspective!!!

Some Perspective!!! was created by NC_Dawg
I found this thread posted on another site and felt compelled to cross post. It was written by Middle Dawg, who for decades has given his insight and wisdom to many a dawg forum. As that we are in the seasonal countdown, when angst and anticipation become partners of game day zeal, a little perspective is always welcome...........

Subject: A Little Reminder
Posted by: Middle Dawg on Mon Aug 27 2007 3:06:37 AM

IT'S GAME WEEK!

Instead of listening to the endless parade of idiots predict our final record, we get to listen
to the endless parade of idiots predicting Oklahoma State will upset UGA.

Danny Sheridan will be warning Finebaum that UGA is headed back to mediocrity because
Richt isn't playing with Donnan's players any more. (Pssst, Danny, Richt hasn't been
playing with Donnan's kids, for the most part, since 2003.)

We're going to see stories scouting Oklahoma State in depth. Both head coaches will be
liberally quoted saying how much respect they have for their upcoming opponent.

We'll fret on Tuesday that we don't get any injuries on scrimmage day.

We'll hear all about how the players think they're ready and that they're tired of hitting one
another.

Buck and Kincade will tick people off.

We're going to worry whether Larry will be able to make it to the stadium.

Thursday night we'll watch LSU stomp a sorry Mississippi State team and revel in every
play because it means football is back. We'll call our friends and discuss whether LSU is as
good as everyone said they would be and we'll make fun of the Chickens for agreeing to
play on Thursdays so often.

We'll spend the entire week reading the Rivals and Scout websites looking for any sign of
impending greatness or disaster from the practice reports. We'll pay close attention to
what Ching writes in his blog.

Friday night we're going to be loading up our cars with all our gear and checking the
weather reports to see if the temperature is going to be brutal and whether there's any
change in the forecast for a 50% chance of showers.

Saturday morning, we'll get mad when Corso, Herbstreit and May come up with 42 reasons
why Oklahoma State will beat Georgia.

Then, we'll climb in our cars and we'll curse all the traffic and we'll fret over whether we
can get our parking space before some yahoo steals it and we'll cuss Michael Adams for
ruining tailgating yet again.

And we'll listen to \"Glory Glory\" on our car and portable stereos, maybe a little bit of Gary
Glitter, some of Munson's classic calls, Sister Sledge and other stalwarts that add ear candy
to the occasion.

We'll drink our beers and other adult beverages. The more conservative will sip on their
bottles of Evian or Cold Creek designer water. Some of us will be polite to the handful of
OSU fans who show up, the students will steal a couple of their children and barbecue 'em
up. Larry will interview Coach Richt and we'll listen and then Loran will do his interviews
asking players like Asher Allen whether he knows that Ted Bundy played high school
football.

Then, it will be time. Many of us will go down to the Dawg Walk to catch our only close up
view of Richt for this coming season. We'll sing our songs and we'll clap and the Redcoats
will do their usual excellent job.

And then, and then....

HERE COME THE DAWGS!

Some will pass by us wearing big grins, some will already have their game faces on. The
extroverts will high five fans in the front row as they pass. The introverts will worry about
getting stomped by a crazed mob. They'll disappear inside led by Harry. The Redcoats will
fall out and march to their seats in formation.

Then we'll file into the stadium behind them or head back to our tailgate for one last quick
adult beverage before trekking back to our respective gates and herd ourselves past the
overly dedicated campus cops checking purses for C-4 bombs and concealed adult
beverages.

And we'll head up to our gate and emerge to find... Our own little piece of heaven, one of
the most awesome sights in college football aka Sanford Stadium.

We'll wait and chat and check the afternoon scores and then... The Dawgs will come out to
warm up. We'll cheer like mad and know that it's finally here after all that waiting. On the
Tech deck, some of the rowdier fans who refuse to pony up for decent tickets will toss an
OSU fan or two off the top to get fired up.

Lower down, we'll engage in some last minute fretting with the guys and gals around us
who had the same seats last year as we carefully watch to make sure the receivers are
catching and that our QB's look sharp.

And then, and then, the Dawgs will lock arms and walk in from the 50 and head to the
locker room for that last minute pep talk and a couple of minutes at the chalk board with
their position coaches.

Meanwhile, outside, we'll be told who is holding the trumpet in the SW corner of the
stadium. Those seven notes will ring out and Munson will relive past glories on the
scoreboard. (Let's hope they've improved it some).

Richt and the players will tell us: I'm Georgia! Are you? We'll think it a bit corny but tell
ourselves quietly, \"You bet I'm Georgia!\"

The Redcoats will play their usual litany of songs to get us fired up. We'll hear: \"Will You Be My Girl?\" and we'll sing along with the kids. We'll look at the frat boys five deep with bare chests with letters painted on their torsos and think, \"Maybe there's hope for the younger generation after all. At least, they have their football priorities straight!\"

And then, and then, we'll hear Baba O'Reilly and the cheerleaders will put up that big UGA banner and we'll see the Dawgs next to the Bulldog statue hopping up and down eager to get out there. The signal will be given and Uga (let's hope) will waddle out leading the Dawgs to the sidelines and the stadium will be deafening. No hope of listening to Larry now unless you crank up the volume on your little radio to the max endangering your eardrums for future use.

The noise will build and about then Oklahoma State will emerge and we'll switch to booing them.

The captains will come out to the center of the field and the coin toss will be made and
either we or OSU will make their choice.

A pregnant moment, and then the Dawgs will come out to kick off or receive.

That throaty yell will start as a rumble building to a crescendo:
GooooooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOO Dawgs! Sic 'em! Woof! Woof! Woof!

Coutu or Bailey or somebody will belt the fool out of the ball or else Thomas Brown or
Asher Allen or somebody we have with a lot of speed will look up from the five yard line as
the ball floats toward them and starts to lose height.

And the shortest 4 months of the year will have begun.

Our Dawgs are going to war again and taking us along for the ride. By midseason, Rolo
will be catching hell on the boards for his annual predictions of disaster, which he'll deny,
or else he'll be crowing and there will be surly silence. \"Damn, I thought the offensive line
would jell quicker than it did!\"

By the second week of January it will all be over and we'll have one less football season to
look forward to personally. But that's okay, because our children and nephews and nieces
and the next generation will carry on for us after our time is through.

SEC football. Georgia football. There is nothing like it.

IT'S GAME WEEK!
