Happy college football Saturday dawg fans. Back to an old favorite here, Peet’s Big Bang medium roast piping hot in the Georgia game day mug. Record lows up here in the Queen City this morning for a definitive fall-like feel in early September.
Home opener at Sanford Stadium is also non-conference game #2 for the 2024 season that sees a hurting Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles fresh off a heartbreaking loss in the last 1:06 in the 4th after mounting a 3 score comeback to take a 25-24 lead being down to Middle Tennessee 21-5 at the half. The game of football is a 60 minute affair, as we’ve experienced too many times to count.
We hold an all-time record of 24-0 against FCS teams, and while Kirby will obviously be deferential and respectful to his opponent, we all know that this game should not be anything more than a tune-up for Beck to gain chemistry with the new receiver corps, iron out playbook wrinkles, and for us test roster depth on both sides of the ball at game speed. On the defensive side, no doubt the first unit should be able to easily keep points off the board against a team that only averaged 17 points per game in 2023, but more importantly, this should be the second and third unit’s opportunity to come in and defend the end zones to protect the first team effort and show the depth of this 2024 defense.
Would really like to see our backs get good work on the ground in an effort to not run the score off the scoreboard, and would also like to see Branson Robinson finally - finally - have a breakout game to break the chains that seemingly held him in place since he has been at UGA after all the work that young man has done to get healthy. Looking forward to seeing lots of young pups get their reps as the team prepares for its SEC opener next week against Kentucky up in Lexington. The key goal for this game is to stay healthy.
Game day menu over here today is stuffed potato boats, pigs in a blanket, nachos, bacon & white cheddar sausages on toasted buns, and homemade buffalo chicken dip.
As always, GO DAWGS! GATA!
