Alright, Bulldog fans, buckle up and get ready for a wild ride from the classic city!
Saturday against Ball State, it looked like our Dawgs were still in the doghouse for the first quarter, but, oh boy, did they turn up the heat!
So here’s the scene: The Dawgs, with their number 1 ranking, came alive in the second quarter like a bull outta the gate. They picked off the Cardinals not once, not twice, but three times! You could almost hear the ringing of the chapel bell from the stadium!
And with those interceptions, they poured on 31 points, turning Sanford Stadium into their very own scoring buffet.
Now, the offense got a little sleepy-eyed in that first quarter, but who needs caffeine when you have Mekhi Mews? He grabs a punt deep, sprints like his mama's callin' him home for supper, shuffles right, gives a Cardinal the ol’ “see ya later” move, and rockets 69 yards for a touchdown! First time since Hardman in 2018. Seven-zip Dawgs, and the party’s just getting started.
Now Ball State tried to answer, but their QB Semonza throws one that's caught by our very own Malaki Starks! And then, in the blink of an eye, Carson Beck's lettin' it fly 37 yards to Arian Smith. The grand finale of that drive? A neat 7-yard dart to Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint for six.
But those Bulldogs had a hunger in their eyes. On the Cardinals' next drive, a pass goes haywire, bounces around, and ends up in the paws of Chaz Chambliss! Dillon Bell then takes the spotlight, running 21 yards, dancin' past a Cardinal, and lighting up the scoreboard.
The Dawgs looked like they might kick their paws up and coast into halftime with a 24-point cushion, but lo and behold, the defense has other plans. Another errant throw from Semonza gets tipped and finds its way into Tykee Smith’s arms. Kendall Milton punches it in, and it's 31-0 faster than you can say "Go Dawgs"!
But Carson Beck wasn’t done serving up some southern hospitality. Midway through the third, he connects with Cash Jones for another big ol’ touchdown. Beck's final tally? A sizzling 283 yards in the air, two touchdowns, and a lone pick. All in all, Dawg Nation, it was a Saturday to remember between the hedges.
The final damage? 45-3, Georgia. And let me tell ya, if this is a sign of things to come, it's gonna be one heck of a season in Athens. Hunker down, you hairy Dawgs!
